Because the Supreme Court has already ruled that "executive privilege" is invalid in impeachment hearing. On that note, there really is no such thing as executive privilege in the law books, it's not founded in law but rather was a concept created by presidents.

 

You're not really addressing what I posted. If the House felt it could compel disclosure from the President, why did they not wait until their litigation was finished? Did they know it would lead nowhere? Abandoning inquiry puts a large hole in my perception of their sincerity. It seems to me they're not looking for justice. This seems more of a 'politics as usual' maneuver.

 

They could if they wanted to wait months. The subpoenas themselves should have been all the compelling that they needed, Trump denied the law and was impeached.

 

While the matter was working its way through the courts, Trump's innocence is assumed. Waiting would nail his guilt down. Seems to me if they wanted to be sure, they would have waited if there was some substance to the disclosures they wanted. Trump was indeed impeached, but the House undermined its own articles by its failure to wait for the follow through in my opinion. If you're going to spend millions of taxpayer dollars, do the job right. This half-a**ed approach is going to let him get away.
