    That's a relief.
This takes a bit of the heat out of the current conflict. It would have been possible, but
not easy, for Iran to blame Trump.

Now if only the Russians would admit their role in bringing down Malaysian Flight 17
    over the Ukraine.

Think twice—Both CNN and Iran are blaming Trump and his reckless adventure.

Human errors happen, but think about the short time for right estimation of radar indications.
NATO put nukes directly on Russian border, Russia has only few minutes to analyze the possibility of a nuclear attack.
Any malfunction or human error can easily lead to WWIII

And have you heard about Putin's missiles that can travel seven times faster than the
speed of sound? No time for American's anti-missile defense to react.
I am not sure if the intermediate range nuclear missiles aimed at Europe are of this
    category.
And this wont' effect the nuclear tsunami bombs Putin boasts could swamp eastern
USA - these are launched from Russian submarines.

The Russian dictator Putin came to Australia. He promised to co-operate with
the investigation into this plane. After returning to Russia he refused to co-operate.
I don't think the Australians were fooled.

OF COURSE. Could you imagine the liberal Left blaming Iran, or Russia,
or China, or Cuba, or Venezuela or North Korea for anything? The nastier
the regime, the more the Left will love it.
Old saying, don't listen to what they say, watch what they do.

RGC Aerospace Force commander says that the air defense system had identified the #UkranianPlane as "cruise missile" in a 19 km distance, adding that the "request had been made to clear the sky from civil flights at that time, but it had not happened due to reservations"

Since when do "reservations" supersede military "requests"?

The most important things I learned from the briefing from the head of the revolutionary guards aerospace forces, General Hajizadeh, besides the points you mentioned from that tweet and highlighted in other reports I have read, were as follows:
1- Communication between the operators of the air defense system and their headquarters was jammed by the US, forcing the operator to have to make the decision on his own. He had 10 seconds to make a decision and, as he had identified the plane as a cruise missile (in part, based on false reports of US cruise missiles being fired against Iran in response to the attack against the Iraqi bases), the operator decided to shoot it down.

2- While General Hajizadeh did not identify the specific individual or authority who had failed to do the obvious, namely make sure civilian air traffic was closed and cancelled, he did say that the same way he took responsibility for what Iran's aerospace division had done, others who had responsibility on this issue should have done their part. I am personally much more interested to find out who ignored the aerospace divisions request to close off air traffic to civilian flights than to blame this tragedy on some operator of an air defense system having to make a split second decision in stressful conditions without a clear picture what was going on.

What would Iran have to gain by intentionally shooting down a civilian airliner?

Well that might sound insane but you should look at Iran as country that world powers can do tricky things in it to gain their own benefit

What benefit could possibly result from Iran intentionally shooting down a civilian airliner?

Total nonsense. When the military says the planes are grounded, they're grounded. Look at 9/11 for an exemple.

I don't really believe this whole Iran and US drama. I mean presence of ayatollahs is serving US very well .
And look at what trump did for these ayatollahs. He practically rallied iranians behind them. Don't forget Iran is gonna have a devastating budget deficit this year and their people are already very very unhappy. And I believe that Khamenei traded Soleimani's life for that end but that's another story .
The point is shooting down this plane has an obvious consequence and that's aggression of iranians toward governemt. And that means all trump and khamenei did last week are vaporizing again.
But don't forget Putin the fox also have a very rooted power in IRGC being Iran country that is vulnerable in front of the world powers. I can relate this incident to him first because of ukrainian plane and second because it opposes US interest.

So the Iranian government intentionally shot down a civilian airliner to make the Iranian people aggressive towards the Iranian government?

I mean sometimes you might that iran is a mighty country that is causing headache for all the world. But if that was really the case wouldn't you think that they should have been a determinative figure in worlds economy having all these numerous resources.

I would never mistake Iran for a mighty country.

Iran is nothing more than an annoying pissant.
