    Just like this.

Iran Air Flight 655 was a scheduled passenger flight from Tehran to Dubai via Bandar Abbas, that was shot down on 3 July 1988 by an SM-2MR surface-to-air missile fired from USS Vincennes, a guided missile cruiser of the United States Navy. The aircraft, an Airbus A300, was destroyed and all 290 people on board, including 66 children, were killed.

The reason for the shootdown has been disputed between the governments of the two countries. According to the United States government, the crew of USS Vincennes had incorrectly identified the Airbus as an attacking F-14 Tomcat, a U.S.-made jet fighter that had been part of the Iranian Air Force inventory since the 1970s. While the F-14s had been supplied to Iran in an air-to-air configuration, the crew of the guided missile cruiser had been briefed that the Iranian F-14s were equipped with air-to-ground ordnance. Vincennes had made ten attempts to contact the aircraft on both military and civilian radio frequencies, but had received no response. The International Civil Aviation Organization said that the flight crew should have been monitoring the civilian frequency.

You don't seem to quite understand that the shootdown was an accident. Iran was on heightened alert status, and somebody reacted too quickly.

Canada had nothing to do with it, and neither did Ukraine or other countries. It was an accident.

Why would Iran attack Canadians in response to what happened to their general?

Because they’re still pissed off about the Canadians helping 6 American diplomats escape Iran during the hostage ordeal 40 years ago. There’s an awesome movie about this called Argo.

in the 80s US cruiser shut down iran civilian jet over 200+ dead, cause they thought it was iran fighter jet. its difficult to know what type of jet from far away base on radar. especially iran radar is pretty old. you just know there is something flying toward you, you don't know its boeing 737 or b52 bomber or salvo of cruise missile.
the shut down was hours after iran strike base in Iraq, so they probably thinking was US missile/jet flying toward their base. in high tension, fast response, and inadequate training ppl make mistake.
also there were 80+ Iranian on that jet too, so I doubt they intentionally want to shoot down a passenger jet.

Oh you mean Canada honoring our extradition treaty with the US and detained her on the Trump adminstration's request? And the fact we have two Canadians in prison in China on trumped up charges in partial retaliation?

As for you not visiting....... geeeeeee we are so sorry you can't make it.

You are absolutely correct to consider Canada an existential threat. Our clandestine plot to take over the world and in particular eat America's apple pie is working to perfection. Please continue since most Americans would consider your truth to be outrageous and reject the very notion of Canadian global dominance with such a puny military budget, but we both know Putin is our bitch like trump is his. .

Most governments - perhaps all governments - are rife with incompetence and corruption. It is what governments do. The U.S. government shot down an airliner some years ago.

That, of course, was an accident. The Iranians did this deliberately as they are all born murderers by race. Canada should nuke them /satire

The plane WAS taking off into a war zone AFTER other planes had been grounded. What was the pilot THINKING?

This was just such a terrible tragedy for all concerned.
