On the other hand, I have no doubt you wore the uniform and did a career in the Navy. You certainly display that form of Groupthink.

There's no one so low as to pretend to be a brave member of our armed services.

    You, sir, are a disgrace...

LOL. Lieutenants are scared of everything but I can’t see that happening. At least not in the Air Force.

We’re a kindler, gentler service. Especially now. I got a fake LOC for saying “holy bucket of f**k” at Squadron Officer School. It’s a fun camp the AF sends Captains to in an attempt to build leadership by doing obstacle courses, dumb made-up sports and “classes” for 3 hours a day. You and anyone else from the other branches would lose your minds.

Aircrew usually gets sent later so we’re already bitter, and then have to interact with other career fields. They complain about days that started before 0900 and made it so we weren’t allowed to wear flight suits because that made us different/special somehow. I still have nightmares about it.

That's because, in the Air Force, Lieutenants are too busy running to get their Captain's coffee...

I have seen something kind of close.

A 2nd LT tried to dress down a Company Gunny when I was in the Corps. He just said "Aye-Aye Sir". Then went to talk to the Company Commander. Very quickly the LT was dressed down by the Skipper, and told to stay in his lane.

Most Officers I am sure know enough to avoid the Senior NCOs in a chain of command, (Company Gunny, 1st Sergeant,
Sergeant Major), and know to avoid them whenever possible. They all report directly to the immediate level Commander (Company-Battalion-Brigade), and are not answerable to the other Officers other than in a very general way.

In the same way a Lieutenant on paper outranks a CWO4 or CWO5. But I pray for any Lieutenant not in said Chief's direct chain of command that thinks they can tell them what to do.

It’s a very different experience in the AF, at least in the flying community. I’m not going to dress down someone unless there is a blatant, “I don’t give a f***” infraction. I respect my NCOs and treat them like they’re a part of our family, because they are in our squadrons. Especially the crew chiefs and maintenance bros. At the same time, they’re not going to “chief” me if my hair is not in a perfect bun when I step out of maintenance debrief, ect. It’s a mutual understanding of each other’s jobs and the hardships at certain times that makes it work.

I had a level 3 over G one time which is pretty serious. The normal thing is to just buy a case of beer for maintenance and that’s the end of it. It was a long weekend and for a level 3 they need to pull up panels and do a huge inspection. I bought them liquor, beer and tons of pizza for the underage guys while helping them stay late and pull up the panels. I didn’t feel it necessary because I’m a CGO and need to set an example, but because these guys are family and my stupid mistake is keeping them from theirs.

Not sure if the other branches take that relationship as seriously, or even other flying communities within the AF, but I really believe it’s huge in making us as effective as we are.
