None of that was real. lol

And it was the conditions the animals were kept in, not the species being eaten, that fostered the outbreak.

Yeah, I'd rather butcher a free range chicken than one industrially caged.

But Grylls did things in the SAS that he cannot talk about.

Here's one claiming to specifically kill the Wuhan virus....Medicom ProSurface.

    https://www.djournal.com/news/natio...cle_290fc735-76c4-5c68-94ae-fa39e7b4f89e.html

(Personally, I think manufacturers are already smelling the money/profit...and you'd be just as well off with bleach and/or Lysol.)

The website ( medicom.com ) is totally slammed, but thank you for providing information that leads to it. I'll try again later. It's interesting to see that there are a lot of respirator masks on the market that are effective for dust, but evidently not for viruses.... I'm learning a lot this morning, but, it may be just a lot of crap and marketing hoop-la....

The best water filters you can buy, that are big and very expensive, CANNOT filter out viruses. I seriously doubt that anything which human breathing power can draw air through can filter out viruses either.

Good for stopping minute sneeze droplets though when the big woman sneezes like a mortar standing in line at the grocery store.

You may be able to find a product with the same active ingredients as the Pro Surface:

    Active Ingredients Ethyl Alcohol 72.50 % w/w Didecyl Dimethyl Ammonium Chloride 0.33 % w/w
    Other Ingredients 27.17 % w/w

    https://www.medicom.com/uploads/fil...m Pro-Surface Disinfectant Spray 2019-Oct.pdf

A little research on the active ingredients suggests to me that you don't need to spend an arm and a leg on a "specialty" product.

Ethyl Alcohol is just grain alcohol....like Everclear. And Didecyl Dimethyl Ammonium Chloride is used in Clorox wipes.

OK, here's what I've found on Medicom ProSurface Disinfectant:
Active ingredients: Ethyl Alcohol 72.5% and Didecyl Dimethyl Ammonium Chloride 0.33%

The 'alcohol' part is as common as, well, alcohol. The other stuff must be pretty unique, and powerful...(?).

    Link: https://www.medicom.com/uploads/files/USA prosurface sep 2019 ss eng(1).pdf

I would go and buy some of this stuff but I can't see that they sell it at Walgreen's or CVS Pharmacy. Now what...?

We must be 'on the same page'... literally! I will try to find other products with the same ingredients. They can't be THAT unique... I hope. Medicom doesn't seem to have much in the way of drug store sales if they don't put their products in stores like Walgreen's and CVS. But Clorox wipes you can find everywhere!

Haha. I was trying to recall why I was researching veterinary clinic disinfectants and such several years ago.....and why I have most of an unused 1/2 pint of Everclear alcohol in my bathroom cabinet. I had adopted a little dog off Craigslist who had fleas and a horrible inflamed skin rash which I feared would be contagious to my other pets. :p

Still not too worried. I'd worry if it weren't primarily the eldery and immunocompromised who're developing pneumonia.

The population density of China is conducive to the spreading of an easily transmittable virus. Here in the US, cities and towns have actual boundaries where they stop. In China, they just grow into each other, and both then grow upward. Each Chinese person is in contact with so many other people in a given day that any communicable disease is going to spread like wildfire.

They'll be asking for help from US educated doctors and scientists soon. Strange the help won't be coming from the "vaunted" Cuban medical system.

The concern is with the virus mutating and as it spreads, the chance increase significantly of it mutating and becoming more deadly.

You could prepare...a months food in the larder might make sense, and basic emergency supplies, and prescription drugs. Basically be ready to go home and stay home for as long as possible as the disease burns itself out.

We actually have an entire room in the house in which we 'store' stuff, and with careful distribution of the food, we could hold out well over three months. So, yours is very good advice.

I also strongly recommend at least two firearms for defense of your home and family -- a 12-guage pump shotgun, and, a .357-caliber magnum revolver (.357 can shoot all loads of .357 AND .38 Special ammunition). You can find plenty of both of these weapons on a good, 'used' basis for very little money. Have several boxes of ammunition for both of them on hand, just in case somebody decides they want to TAKE what you have because they didn't make their own preparations....

I was thinking perhaps a UV filter -something that draws air through a UV exposed environment, like a tube with a UV lightbulb in it- would destroy the virus.

    But Im not a viralogist.

You should come out of it fine. Love my Rossi .357, okay, make fun of it if you want to guys.:)

Love my old piss pumper, too. Makes perps piss their pants when that worldwide recognizable and unmistakable sound occurs right behind them.

Those are just the deaths though. Sure you might have the strength to survive. You'll still be spending 3 days to a week in bed, racked by alternating chills and heat flashes, coughing up your lungs while wishing for the sweet release of death and missing work/school. THEN you'll spend the rest of your life with compromised lungs.

So yes, you need to worry (not panic) becuase not dying and not having life ruining problems aren't the same thing.

I have never gotten a flu shot but I do get a pneumonia shot every 2 years. There are two types of pneumonia, viral and bacterial. Anyone know which type of pneumonia coronavirus can cause?

Both. The virus itself is, obviously, viral and it opens you up to secondary bacterial (and viral for that matter) infections.

That would make sense, especially for anyone with a weak immune system.

What source is claiming that there will be long term complications?

I can see a slight panic with people already.

If you try to disinfect/bleach everything around you all you succeed in doing is compromising your own immune system and killing the good bacteria we also need to function and stay well.

We need to be careful without trying to encase ourselves inside a sterile bubble. Unless, of course, you are either very old or very young and are at risk in your area.
