Reconstruction failed in part, because of the Northern abolition bias, there was far less support to the South than the North, which is why it took the Southern States over a century to rebuild themselves. Between failed Reconstruction and the civil war itself, I've viewed in hindsight that Lincoln is one of our worst Presidents.

    Cool.

I hope Kellyanne and Trump are saving her a chair:

And, back to Nancy and the OP, she is entitled to her opinion.:flagus:

    Cool.

Let's hijack the thread to debate Reconstruction and Bash Lincoln.:bored:

That said, if you feel that topic is worthy of discussion, feel free to start a thread here:

    http://www.politicalforum.com/index.php?forums/history-past-politicians.20/

Anyway, as to the Actual Topic, Nancy is obviously letting off some steam.

But, she had to have known that acquittal was preordained.:salute:

Impeached without ANY! Bi-Partisan support, that's a Disgrace that they continued with this Bogus Partisan attempt by the Democrats to oust a FAIRLY elected Republican President, because they realize they can't win in November. Lets put an Asterisk beside the entire Democratic Party and everyone who supported this FARCE!

LOL. What does my understanding or not understanding how presidents are elected have to do with the fact that trump lost the popular vote?

Well, Lincoln won the war fair and square, Jefferson Davis lost the war, and winning is everything and the only thing. But then some grumpy nut assassinated Lincoln which left the door wide open for Andrew Johnson to work against all Lincoln had stood for and worked for.

Impeachment in the house doesn’t remove anyone, try again.
And while the entire republican party being unified in the house and then blocking all witnesses in the senate... I don’t believe that is going to play well in the history books. It look’s like they are putting party over country — which they are.

Especially with what will happen once trump is out of office in 1 or 5 years.
You think the investigations are bad now, wait until he doesn’t have the protections of the DOJ and the office of the presidency.

Jefferson Davis didn't even want the war, and Lincoln refused any idea of negotiation except unilateral surrender. Lincoln was Bush before Bush in that sense. Only, except of Iraqis it was 600,000 US men and women. Yeah, you can see why I pulled him down a few pegs in history.

And if he doesn't have them, he doesn't have them. So be it. It would have tarnished the presidency TO impeach him. What happens to Donald. J. Trump outside of his presidency, means absolutely nothing to me.

I put the State over the Democratic Party's wishes.

I'm a from way down South and I only fault Lincoln for not finding Grant and Sherman sooner. Sherman ran one of the most brilliant military campaigns in history. Grant was a master strategist.

The Democrats with the majority in the House, WEAPONIZED the Impeachment process in their Desperation to try and figure out a way to get back in the White House by any means possible in 2020. Luckily, the GOP has the Majority in the Senate, so they fought Fire with Fire. Touche:dual:

Over half of America believed trump needed to be impeached, 70%+ believe new witnesses are needed in the Senate. While you may feel the House impeachment was illegitimate no one can argue that the Senate version is not.

Acquittal with zero witnesses will be all that is remembered from the senate trial.

Yeah! you would have been comfortable having this guy back in the White House if Hillary had been elected and Female Interns having to walk in Fear.

I didn’t vote for Hillary but I understand it is easier to run to her when you don’t have an actual argument.
    Hurry, bring up her emails!

Well! now those Half of Americans can prove that in November, but if Trump is elected, it will be funny to listen to uneducated Liberals complain that it wasn't a legitimate election for another 4 years.

It was the Democrats that initiated the impeachment and brought it to the Senate, if they had no witnesses, that was on them. It was the Democrats responsibility to make their case, otherwise they were just fishing.

I have seen very few people argue the election was illegitimate, instead they are arguing that the president should not be elected in the manner that is current law. trump and republicans agreed with eliminating the electoral college before they realized it is the only way they can win.

If trump loses I wonder if the right (or “angry liberals”) will find it as funny?

Maybe you should look up the responsibilities and reasonings for both the impeachment process and the resulting trial once the charges are submitted to the senate.

Again, acquittal with zero witnesses will be what is remembered

"Acquitted - free (someone) from a criminal charge by a verdict of not guilty."

That's the definition of Acquitted. The Articles of Impeachment are the criminal charges. The senate is the jury which will render the verdict. Perhaps in this case, Pelosi needs to go back to school or at least consult a dictionary.
