How does one go about preventing a mass shooter from acquiring magazines capable of holding more than ten rounds of ammunition? Explain such. Not in hypothetical terms based on what proposed legislation is supposed to do, but in actual real-world terms.
Just as more ammunition means more opportunity to stop a threat before more lives can be lost. Is such being denied on the part of yourself?
If I can't bring down a mass shooter in most mass shooting situations with 10 shots I'm probably just creating more danger for everybody and shouldn't try.
Not too many people understand that just because a person has been fatally wounded in a gunfight, doesn't mean they will stop their hostile actions. History has clearly demonstrated that way too many times even though bad guys have taken many hits they still continue to shoot back in an effort to get away, yes drugs are can be involved, but more important is the human instinct to survive. About the only way to get actually stop the present threat is a head or spinal shot, however that is an extremely difficult shot to pull off when being shot at, because when being shot at the human body generates a lot of adrenaline, in turn that causes physical problems, such as tunnel vision and loss of fine muscle control, neither of which make for good aiming, as such about the only solution a good guy has is to lay down suppressive fire and that requires a lot of rounds to be expended, it does work, even if the good guy is not hitting the bad guy, just shooting at him where he has taken cover, it keeps him from firing back and the longer he can be prevented from shooting back the better the chances are he will bleed out and go unconscious. But suppressive fire requires more than 10 rounds, in fact 10 rounds or less could be suicidal, factually going back to the Miami FBI shootout, the bank robbers Platt and Matix, which the FBI was looking for, where shot multiple times, Platt took a few shots right away and Matix took one in the beginning of the gunfight and killed with another one later, though shot and dying, Platt and Matix where still able to execute 2 FBI agents and wound 5 other agents. It wasn't until another FBI agent Ed Mireles, who was also shot in the gunfight managed to get off two good shots that severed the spinal cords of both bank robbers ending the gunfight. As for drugs, toxicology tests showed that the abilities of Platt and Matix to fight through multiple traumatic gunshot wounds and continue to battle and attempt to escape were not achieved through any chemical means. Both of their bodies were drug-free at the time of their deaths. Now this particular gunfight changed history and out the window went the idea of limited firearm capacity and the lack of hydrostatic shock delivered by weak rounds, after this shooting a lot of departments moved from 6 shooters to semiautomatic's, with higher capacity magazines, it was a semi-solution which over the years due to once again a lack of training has resulted in LEO's firing more rounds while hitting their intended targets less often. Another myth often proffered in forums is that LEO's are highly trained in shooting, nothing could be further from the truth, while many law abiding armed citizens train on a regular basis, the average on the beat LEO in Florida and many other states, by Rule, only has to meet the following minimum standard to carry a gun while on duty once every other year.
Good idea, because you have no idea how to win such a gunfight, however just because you cannot do such doesn't equate to pushing your ideas on to others who can. Training is everything and failing to accept the fact in a active shooter incident, 10 rounds is suicidal, disqualifies you from even trying, and eliminates you from proffering what better trained people should be allowed to have.
There are plenty of police and civilian incidents where 10 shots didn't cut it. Just because you used more than 10 doesn't make it a war zone.
I don't care how determined he is or what he is on...a hot .44 Magnum, .454 Casull, or .50AE hollow point to the sternum will drop ANYONE.
The same reason a healthy young woman should want to abort a healthy baby. The same reason Rosa Pars wanted to ride in the front of the bus.
And get real, most of those calibers are not carried by law abiding concealed carry folks, and trying to get a clean shot to the sternum, while being shot at is nearly impossible, you are truly clueless about the defensive use of firearms.
Aim at center mass. My uncle's carry pistol is a Ruger in .454 Casull. Mine will be a S&W Model 29 in .44 Magnum.
And if the guy has 50 rounds get a bazooka, oh he might have one also, then a tank...yes you can buy tanks in USA, any moves on an A10? Only in America, the land of the free except for the slain, they aren’t free to live a long life.
Meaningless and irrelevant nonsense by one who either has no understanding of the subject, or simply does not care to.
When one goes about claiming the second amendment pertains to military-type vehicles, or weapons of mass destruction such as nuclear devices, rather than the standard personnel equipment such as firearms, they have demonstrated that they have no interest in facts and are simply looking for an excuse to fling hyperbole about since they do not care about what is being discussed.
I'd be willing to let people who had special training and licenses certifying they had such and it was ongoing carry guns in crowds for their own and the crowd's protection if they wanted to, no-one else
The same sort of special training that has resulted in numerous law enforcement officers shooting not only themselves and each other, but also innocent bystanders and even hostages?
Too bad about the Constitution, eh? Your inabilities do not support a sound argument for placing unnecessary and ineffective restrictions on the rights of the law abiding.
Well considering this thread is about gun control compromises, and a compromise is an agreement where both sides make concessions to come to an agreement, I propose the following compromises. Repeal of the 1968 Gun Control Act. Repeal the Brady Handgun Violence Act and pass a federal law prohibiting any state or local government from imposing any form of waiting period. Eliminate all NFA requirements, allow the possession of fully automatic firearms and suppressors by anyone who can pass a NICS check. Instituting a must issue, national concealed carry license with a capped charge of $35 for 5 years to cover the FBI background check costs, if any form of training is required, see next compromise, and as part of this program anyone who holds an existing state or local carry license will be grandfathered to a federal carry license. Institute a standardized, but voluntary, tax payer funded, nation-wide gun safety and marksmanship program for anyone over the age of 12, parental permission would be required for anyone under the age of 18, require the training to be offered during the evenings or on the weekend, the program shall be flexible and mobile as to time, dates and shall be no more than 20 miles away from anyone who wish's to utilize it. Open the FBI NICS system for private transfers, if a seller wish's a buyer to be background checked, the buyer would run themselves through NICS and if the buyer has no disqualifier's the buyer would receive a authorization number good for 30 days, the seller could then either on-line or by phone to an 800 number receive a verification that the buyers authorization is a valid number and be provided with a transfer number, that transfer number would then be retained by the seller, indicating they sold the firearm to a properly vetted buyer, this would be voluntary, but sellers who used the vetting system could not be held liable in any manner should the buyer misuse the sold firearm. Require BATF or local law enforcement to do a follow-up investigation of any person who failed a NICS background check, be it over the counter or a private transfer. Pass a law at the federal level requiring any felon found to be in possession of a firearm or ammunition to be imprisoned for a minimum of 25 years with no chance of parole, if that felon was in the possession of a firearm or ammunition during the commission of a crime the sentence shall be doubled to 50 years with no chance of parole and if that firearm was discharged during a crime the sentence shall be life with no chance of parole. Pass a law at the federal level prohibiting any state or local government from passing any laws, regulations or ordnances that restrict the ownership or the bearing of firearms that exceeds the existing federal laws regulating firearms. Pass a law at the federal level that renders null and void any law, regulation or ordnance that exceeds the current federal laws regulating firearms, include in the law a penalty for anyone who proposes any law, regulation or ordnance to be subject to removal from office and or a fine of $50,000. Repeal all state, and local government Red Flag laws and regulations. If a person is a clear threat to themselves or others, they may be separated/relocated from their firearms by incarceration or other means, however the firearms shall not be seized, if a family member who is not a felon is willing to take possession of the firearms and the accused agrees, the firearms may be relocated and the accused remain where they reside, in either case a hearing shall be held within 10 business days where the person requesting the separation of the accused and their firearms and accused can argue their case before a judge or magistrate, if the accused cannot afford an attorney one shall be appointed by the state to defend the accused for no charge. The trial shall be weighed in favor of the accused and the burden of proof to separate the accused from their firearms shall be borne by the person wishing that separation. If it is determined the accused shall be separated from their firearms, those firearms shall be logged and stored in a secure climate controlled location, and the accused shall be afforded the ability to request a re-trial every 30 calendar days, if it is determined the accused firearms shall be returned they shall be returned to the accused without a 4473 or NICS check within 24 hours by the entity storing the firearms at the entity's expense if they are not returned with 24 hours the entity storing the firearms shall have a fine of $5000 per firearm per day until they are returned to their rightful owner. Institute strict liability on any person or entity that declares a area to be a gun free zone, that way should someone be injured during a crime within that gun free zone, the person or entity who created the gun free zone would be held fully liable for any damages to the injured person resulting from any criminal action, further if the injured party dies as a result of that criminal action that persons surviving relatives would be able to sue and be issued a judgment against the person or entity who created the gun free zone. Require any person or entity who creates a gun free zone to obtain and maintain liability insurance, automatically naming any person who enters the gun free zone as an additional insured, the insurance shall be issued at a minimum of $5 million for property damage and $50 million for personal injury or death per person, per incident. Institute a national program that will provide financial assistance to the head of a household to purchase a single firearm for self defense, if that person meets the minimum requirements for any assistance program such as WIC, SNAP or subsidized housing, as part of this program the person must pass a NICS background check to obtain their firearm, but will be exempt from having to pay the $35 fee for national carry license. In return for these concessions by the law abiding, I am willing not to try to suppress the First Amendment rights of any Gun Control Advocate. Do we have a deal?
But why? The law is clear. There is to be NO abridgment of the right. Isn't that what you say? It is now quite easy to carry weaponry sufficient to kill several hundred into large crowds, and as far as those hundreds are concerned it doesn't matter if what killed them was a musket or a nuclear bomb. Most people accept that regular citizens cannot have fully automatic weaponry, Why can't that be extended to assault-style rifles, and thence to all firearms?
