GOP Sen. Mitt Romney will vote to remove Trump from office in impeachment trial
    https://www.cnbc.com/2020/02/05/imp...o-convict-trump-on-abuse-of-power-charge.html

"Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah said Wednesday that he will vote to convict President Donald Trump for abusing his power, making him the only Republican in the Senate to publicly say he would side with Democrats attempting to remove Trump from office.

Romney shared his decision with The New York Times just a few hours before the Senate is set to hold its final 4 p.m. ET vote on whether to convict Trump on the two articles of impeachment that passed the House in December."
    .........................................................................................................................
Of the two articles of impeachment the second, for obstruction of Congress, is the more difficult to excuse away. I always found it more intellectually defensible to say breaking the law on withholding of funds and soliciting help in the upcoming election did not, in a given senator's opinion, rise to the level of an impeachment offense. It's hard to argue with an opinion. The obstruction charge, however, is pretty black and white. The stonewalling of document production and witness testimony is blatantly unconstitutional.

More than anything I think this is a play by Romney, who holds a safe seat, to distance himself from Trump's criminality so he can point to his vote when he runs for prez in 2024.

I totally understand your desire to recognize Mitwit for doing the right thing on one article of impeachment. Especially considering the intellectual bankruptcy and disregard for the Constitution displayed by the rest of the POT. But if he had ethics or morals.......and more importantly cared more about the country than he did about himself.......he would have voted to convict on both counts.

“I believe that attempting to corrupt an election to maintain power is about as egregious an assault on the Constitution as can be made,” Mr. Romney added, appearing by turns relieved and nervous — but also determined — as he explained his decision. “And for that reason, it is a high crime and misdemeanor, and I have no choice under the oath that I took but to express that conclusion.”

A man of integrity that History will look favorably on. He is taking his oath seriously and "before God" he is voting his conscious. Yes, the egregious act of asking a foreign government to investigate your political opponent is far worse than lying about having sex in the WH library or even concealing your knowledge of a two bit break in....

History will not be kind to the Sheep that will follow trump over the cliff.....They are all souless and with no conscious.

Not to mention illegally withholding funds from an ally and illegally stonewalling Congress.

Beyond the Partisan Fight, a Wealth of Evidence About Trump and Ukraine
Regardless of the Senate’s verdict, the impeachment inquiry, President Trump’s own words and other revelations yield a narrative establishing his involvement in the pressure campaign.
    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/05/...action=click&module=Spotlight&pgtype=Homepage

WASHINGTON — When all the partisan posturing, parliamentary wrangling and legalistic arguing are stripped away, the impeachment process that dominated Washington for months produced a set of facts that is largely beyond dispute: The president of the United States pressured a foreign government to take actions aimed at his political opponents.

As the Senate moved toward acquitting President Trump on Wednesday, even some Republicans stopped trying to defend his actions or dispute the evidence, focusing instead on the idea that his conduct did not deserve removal from office, especially in an election year.

Mr. Trump’s “behavior was shameful and wrong,” and “his personal interests do not take precedence over those of this great nation,” Senator Lisa Murkowski, Republican of Alaska, said on Monday. She went on to declare that she would nonetheless vote to acquit.

Interpreted: "Yes, he is an amoral slug and what he did was worthy of removal...but I will be a good little soldier and vote to keep the Liar in the White House."

Indeed the Romney Clown is ethnically and intellectually bankrupt - and he cares not for the founding principles.

History has already shown the Romney Clown to be a Sheep.

Lest we forget the election cycle that ended in 2012. Mitt was going around spewing complete BS - stuff that he knew was a complete lie.

    1) blaming the 2009 Deficit on Obama 2) blaming the increase in job losses in 2009-2010 on Obama.

Both claims were "Pants on Fire" false.

Please explain to me how the supposed "Business Candidate" - could not figure out that after

    1) Stock Market Crash - Dow dropped from 14,000 to 6500
    2) A housing bubble that has just burst - home values dropping in half
    3) Revenue dropping from 2.7 Trillion to 2.1 Trillion (2009)
    4) Deficit of 1.4 Trillion - handed to Obama by Bush ( 600 Billion from the revenue decrease - 400 Billion baked into the cake as 2009 is a Bush fiscal year - 250 Billion from TARP (enacted by bush) and the other 150 Billion - other stimulus spending - due to the Bush Crash.
    5) Financial System near collapse - commercial paper markets froze. Some do not know what this means but, the Romney Clown does. If GE gets a 5 Billion dollar nuclear power plant - it must borrow money from the CP markets to get the project started .. if these markets are frozen - the project can not start. Had nothing been done - and these markets remained closed - the whole system starts to shut down.

Even average Joe can figure out that after such a catastrophe - there are going to be job losses. Apparently not Mitt though - the self proclaimed "Business Candidate".

Mitt was lying his face off - and he knew it - "Before God".

Now we have Mitt lying again claiming that the Ukraine saga was some kind of National Security Risk - what a joke - The Romney Clown strikes again !

Given the number of times you have clicked "Like" on my anti Trump posts - you should know better - but - in any case - you are wrong - I dislike Trump very much thank you.

PS - did you have something other than Ad Hom fallacy to put forth :)

I take back what I said earlier. Romney earned my respect with that speech. His words bring shame and dishonor to the rest of his party who chose political survival over what is best for the country.

I wouldn't believe anyone who doesn't pay his taxes and ties his dog to the roof of his car when he goes on vacation. Intelligent people apply filters to statements before accepting them as truths.

A shout out to Doug Jones who also cast a principled vote guided by the evidence despite the fact it may cost him his senate seat. He showed the kind of moral courage only one Repub mustered.

He thinks there's a job as dog catcher open and he would be blackballed by the fascists if he didn't comply and vote to end presidential elections as Schiff told us was the goal of his witch hunt. Progressive Fascist cancellation is viscious.
