So just to clarify, would you excuse someone’s actions if they beat up a person wearing a Malcolm X or Che Guevara shirt in such divisive times as today?

 

I'm not sure if I'm ready to put the maga hat in the exact same category as the white hood yet.

When the white hood came out for use, it was almost always directly tied to violence. I know there were KKK 'picnics' and 'meetings' where there was none, but in general

The hat can be worn anywhere, since your face is exposed, and isn't directly tied to violence.

But it's mostly the same category of people wearing it and generally for the same reason...

Fortunately, it's so hideous and will never be worn as a true fashion item, so there is really only one reason to be wearing it, isn't there?

I dont recall ever seeing a maga hat live, in my neighborhood or community.. and we still have Trump supporters based on 2016 local vote counts, so it's possible to do one without the other.

Not sure what you mean by excuse. But I would still consider wearing them in a politically hot public area foolish and stupid. I wouldn't go attacking them for it though.

1) Which side of what? What does that even mean? This is about tolerance - you either practice it, or you don't. You accept that in a democracy we're exposed to all kinds of beliefs and preferences, or admit you don't care for democracy because it demands tolerance.

2) I don't see that at all. I see one side becoming increasingly intolerant, while the other has remained more or less the same.

3) How can we 'fix' it? Are you saying we should commit these fruitloops to institutions or something? How do you propose we 'fix' the unhinged violent intolerants? As for WHY they do what they do .. the answer is going to be one of the standard aetiologies involved in personal dysfunction/disorder. There is nothing exotic or unusual about it. Seeing more of it is just the result of increased enabling, and ideological interference in the DSM (yes, I'm serious on that last).

4) You aren't powerless. You can choose never to be a violent intolerant, and you can vote.

5) I'm sure no one thinks you're a monster, but they can't really ignore the fact that you've repeatedly suggested that political insignia is responsible for the violence of others. That's pretty darned unpleasant. As for 'your people' being in power .. what is it that you think will happen then? Are you saying that those who can't deal peaceably with not being in power, are going to be cured of their mental health issues? And why do you think everyone 'attacking' you is conservative?
