We have always had shifting relations with France. They are the first nation after independence we had a war with, although the quasi war was undeclared. I recall back in the 70's reading a Mad magazine, great satire for it's day. They had action figures from each major nation at war in WW II in one article and talked about what the relation was to the US presently. For example, it said GI Jerry was our enemy, but now our friend, or at least half of him was. For GI Frenchie, they said first we were friends, then we weren't, and then asked are they are friends now, and it answered it as which way is the wind blowing. I heard stories of US and Brit POWs interned with Frenchmen who usually said they did not like the French. I have no documented proof of that, so I don't know for sure. So, for whatever reason, the US and France have had their spats over the years.

The Ice in Greenland is some millions of years old. Greenland was named for its Green coasts, which it has now. The eruption of 536 probably cooled the Earth much more than it heated it. I think you are referring to the Medieval Warm Period, which came about 400 years later

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenland_ice_sheet

    https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/earth-and-planetary-sciences/medieval-warm-period

There are lots of volcanoes on the Earth and most of them are probably unknown and under the ocean, but the article I cited says that less than 2000 total are known to exist now so I think saying that 998,000 are hidden by the seas is a bit of a stretch. I realize that volcanoes indeed very hot but I believe that if they are indeed heating the vastness of the oceans then we have much bigger problems than are being discussed here, Finally the article says that volcanism is not increasing overall.

The Earth's climate has indeed heated and cooled in the past, but usually over centuries not decades and the present levels of CO2 in the atmosphere now are approaching that of the Carboniferous, some millions of years past, which made the Earth into a very different place than it is now, where man would probably not be able to live at all.

Your post smells of a Frenchman that doesn't like opposing views and common sense. You seem to think it's a foregone conclusion this Aurélien Barrau is the smartest man alive to attest to climate change, but this dude is nothing but a theoretical physicist who theorizes about 'black holes' in outer space.......

The one thing about the inter-workings of black holes and AGW.....neither can be proven. So your guy is just like the local weatherman.....he's guessing as best he can.

The reason France will always be France is because it's full of sheep.

What Could People Have Done To Make All These Volcanoes
    become so active now.

Besides volcanoes I am suspicious of the Arctic melt and activity
along the junction of the North American plate and the Eurasian.
It runs nearly under the North Pole.

I refuse to feel so insignificant not to take responsibility for all PeopleKind.
@Jeanette :blowkiss: That includes the French too, for topic sake.

I wouldn't believe anything of what's being said by the so called experts. I came across amateurs that have proven them wrong many times until they were forced to concede years later. If people are so concerned about the climate then they should plant more trees. Do you know that China has watered a desert 3 times the size of Spain, and has turned it into fertile land.

Iraq and Libya are our fault. we overthrew long-term dictators who were successful leaders. both Iraq and Libya were doing fine without our interference. I disagree on whether Egypt is any worse off. That is a big difference than the US propping up dictators and quashing popular uprisings in our own hemisphere.

There could easily be a "collapse" of the mental processes that keep civilization bound to erroneous thought. This could be pleasant or not.

I'm sure I probably won't be around in 20 years but for those who will be and laugh at the scientists today, when you cannot breathe because your lungs are seared from the heat and the water rises over your roof and the mountains become islands and the human species becomes a minor or extinct race, remember you had your chance and blew it.

I don't think Aurélien Barreau is the smartest man alive, I said he was just smarter than you, you're not the second smartest man alive, and I don't imply you're dumb. You were the one claiming that all people thinking that are dumb.
About "guessing", yes and no, that theory is based on solid elements, for instance on the correlation between global GDP and amount of fuel we use. There is a limited amount of fuel, and so a GDP that globally followed an exponential path during the two last centuries could be a sign that we're in a gauss courb.
For the GDP to not collapse, it would need either to stop to correlate with the amount of energy consummed, or that we find a magical new unlimited source of energy that we don't know yet.

    0, I didn't invested in it yet.

Certain elements in the climate change discussions have always seemed quite simple, at least to this poster.
One is that certainly human contribution could only be adding to, not ameliorating, climate change, however little or great we might argued it to be.
Most importantly, however, is the ugliness and stupidity of polluting in all its forms. Thus, the basis for 'cleaning up our act' is not to save the earth, think of future generations, have pity on nature or any other (false) altruism. The best reason to improve is that we are here now and seeing and breathing and eating all this *@§#!!! is disgusting.

I thought that in most Western societies the air is cleaner, the water more pure
and the food in better shape than at any time since the beginning of the Industrial
    Revolution.

What we need is "little Pharma" or "no Pharma"
It's been said that some pharmaceuticals can take 10 years
and ten billion dollars to bring to market.
With "little Pharma" we can stop all these drugs being
developed. We can just give patients carrot juice.

    the Left hates "big business"
when it gets into power it goes after big business, then
medium business and then small businesses (think
Venezuela) In the end your local family owned jam
business is run by the govt.. Some party hack, the
new king pin of society, knows more about jam than
three generations of that jam family. This happened
    in East Germany.

So yeah, more "big pharma" and more "big auto
    manufacturer" and more "big space."

He said western societies and you thought USA?

Mickey D is a conundrum. in truth several years back they put in a good effort at scaling back the fatty stuff, of course that didn't help to make it taste any better. My grandson loves their salads, go figure.

Myself, I miss the old cafes, the old diners, open-faced sandwiches and smash.
