Wont that raise privacy concerns though? As well as security issues?
And how would anyone even be able to very that the pictures folks posted under where actually pictures of them?

Also,...assigned numbers??? What is this?... 1984 or something?...

Not all, not even most, but yes, some civilians will in fact resort to violence for political reasons.
Its happened numerous times across American history. For certain individuals, often times all
it takes is a little push to get them to go on a killing spree. And with foreign governments pushing
people all over the place, its times like these that we need to be extra cautions and consider
what it is we can do to prevent such violence.

I don't think that that is a good idea. Actually, I think its a terrible idea, maybe one of the worst posted in the thread so far.
    Declare martial law.... really?

You're pretty insulting for a moderator, did you know that?

Look, the question is whether the drawbacks of the extreme measures, such as martial law and gun confiscation, which are going to be necessary if you really want to reduce violence, outweigh the benefits. Take your pick.

Be my guest. But we must first accept the fundamental nature of man. We have a lot that is hardwired in to us ...lust, covetousness, jealousy, greed, hormones, fear that we can't wish away. Each one of those leads to violence.

Eliminate the electoral college?? You do that and we in the flyover states will show you what violence can really be. Kalifornia and New York will not impress their culture and ideas on us. The suggestion to eliminate "identity politics" and "multi=culturalism " would go along way. We Americans are all proud of our heritage.....but we put our Americanism first. You don't elect leaders like Juan McCain that had his own cloak and daggar agenda. I've got to say, you have a real mix of ideas here. Some good and some not so good.

Gun confiscation will cause violence as people do nothing more than protect thr constitution.
Any and all gun confiscations are unconstitutional on many levels and immoral. Anyone for them is a bad person and not fit to serve in the US government as they cannot fulfil their oath of office to defend the constitution.

1984 has been the goal all along for those who began plotting America's demise some 100 years ago.

You really should study "active measures" as implemented by the Soviets beginning about 70 years ago.

There are some good videos on YouTube from Yuri Bezmenov, a Soviet defector.

I began studying the "demoralization" process of our country about 40 years ago. The long and short of it is that our disintegration from within has been the long game being played against by our ruling elite.

They infiltrated all of our institutions and began to destroy our foundations from within. Education, the courts, media, etc.

As Bezmenov says, and I agree, the process is irreversible.

The only way to stop it would be a massive purge and revolution; but, that will never happen. We are being walked into a global gulag.

End the abridging of the PURPOSE of free speech.

One of the purposes is to create understanding between people. From the understanding can come; forgiveness, tolerance, acceptance, respect, trust, friendship and love protecting life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Why stop political violence?..... what kind of question is that???
We, at least those of us who consider ourselves citizens of this land,
should all want to stop it, simply because we care about our country as well as the people who live in it.
We don't want our family, friends, and neighbors to die senseless deaths. Nor should we want to risk getting caught up in violence ourselves.

Well, that is your opinion. We do have a pretty sizable list of ideas already.
There are more I need to add on to the list, and hopefully we can put our heads together to come up with even better ones.

I dont see a way out, the rift is to deep. If it was divorce court "irreconcilable differences" would be the cited reason.

Italicization is used to give emphasis, particularly to the main points of the writing.
But you bring up an interesting point... we all have different upbringings and experiences,
and with that come different means of expressing our thoughts as well as differing ways
of interpreting the expressions of others. So what may be a perfectly sensible way to write
something to me may seen off-putting to you, and vice-versa.

But if we want to get a message out to others regarding things that we agree on, it does help imo to have many people from varying backgrounds all sharing that same message in their own unique styles. With that in mind, how would you rewrite what I was saying above; all that stuff about binary thinking, broad-brushing, solutions, and compromise... in a way that was more appealing? Could you give an example of how that same message would look if it were written by you?

The acts of violence are already crimes, we need only enforce existing laws. What you are talking about is eroding freedoms in the hope of preventing acts that are already criminal. You can tack on a domestic terror charge, but there is no reason to erode our freedoms. I don't support violence, I support our rights to free speech and assembly...

There was more political violence in the 60s than there is now. What little there is now is magnified out of proportion by a media anxious to sell ad space to insurance and pharmaceutical companies. Quick, when was the last political assassination in your hometown?

Well, I didn't raise the question. This silly debate reminds me of the old debate over reducing highway fatalities.

"If you are serious about it, you'll reduce speed limits to 25 and enforce them."

    "But that's too slow!!"

"Then you aren't serious about it."

You're right, passing more gun laws means your not serious about protecting the constitution.

How Can We Prevent Societal Rifts From Expanding into Violence?
By remembering that by definition, a "democracy" is a place where any & all views are free to exist & express themselves PEACEFULLY, & all successful political solutions include ideas from a wide variety of perspectives coupled with a willingness to compromise for the greater good. All these are crucial in any successful democratic society. Once they break down, that society becomes more & more undemocratic. The U.S. exists inside that twilight zone now, where it is unclear whether it will continue respecting the views of each other in our quest for solutions, or give in to fear & question the rights of others around us who disagree. I sincerely hope it is the former.

There is no such thing as the greater good..

The best good is the endurance of individual freedom.

I'll compromise on everything but the constitution.

I agree with you on the Constitution. But I don't see how anyone can support the Constitution & support Trump at the same time. I'm not being rude here, but serious. Trump is doing things on a daily basis that is degrading, demeaning & weakening specific departments of our Constitutional government--like the Dept of Justice, for example. Conservatives promote smaller government. The extreme version of "small" government is government of one man rule, which Trump is famous for favoring, with his admiration for Putin, Kim Jong-Un, & other authoritative rulers around the world. Clearly, he wants to be one of them. Today, he is openly taking actions by using his authority as President over the Dept of Justice (headed by AG Barr), to investigate & harass his Democratic opponents for the next election. That kind of behavior against one's political opponents is un-American. But Trump has also repeatedly asked foreign leaders & nations to investigate his political rivals for him--which is forbidden by the Constitution itself. What Trump is doing is not altogether illegal, but it is unheard of in American history, & weakens our Constitutional freedoms as individuals & as a democratic society. From my view, we must choose between Trump or our Constitution. They are in conflict with each other. To support both is impossible. I offer this link as further argument that I am right. It's a short video, but interesting, informative, & powerful. I highly recommend it.
