You are buying into the anti-military propaganda. Very few of those constitute a sizeable presence. Many of these are embassies and liaison offices. For instance we have US military in China and Russia. Are we occupying China and Russia?

Sorry...but think research will show you that government workers are actually living, breathing people who use their incomes to purchase things like homes, cars, and the other products of the economy. They are part of the "demand" side of the economy and those who profit from the sale of such products don't really care about the origin of their purchasing power.

All of our forces overseas total 200,000. They would be swallowed up trying to occupy Iran, a nation of 80m.

A major war and occupation would likely require a military draft. Vietnam war protests in that case would look like a walk in the park.

Every dollar that those workers have was paid for by taxes removing GDP growth from the private sector. The only entity capable of creating GDP growth is the private sector with international sales.

Every dollar the government spends, including payroll, is a bet loss in economic growth.
