California's Gov. Gavin Newsom says 'doctors should be able to write prescriptions for housing' in bizarre proposal to tackle the homeless crisis

California certainly knows how to pick 'em. Newsom is just begging more mentally sick people to flock to his state where housing is either unaffordable or non existent. And then to solve that problem, he's going to put the financial cost of it on the taxpayers who are already leaving the state in droves. And I'm certain the crazy people from down south will run, not walk, to take part in the great California experience.

But it's nice to see him admit that 25% of Californians are nuts.

I'm for it if the first places we describe are the same places Gov. Newsome and every California government official lives at.

I'm going to imagine the housing Newsom speaks of would be nicer than the housing of many people who have to pay for it themselves.

Heck, I can write a prescription for a house but the patient still needs to pay for it.

That doesn't make California look good. One of the solutions to homelessness is to build more houses and housing units. I'm sorry, but that's going to mean relaxing zoning and environmental regulations and Californians are selfishly using that as a reason to artificially inflate their property values. I can see why millenials don't like Boomers all that much, although, if the rolls were reversed, they'd be doing the exact same thing.

Every time we think we’ve heard it all from California, they surprise us with a new low.

They really are a different culture. They don’t share the same American values we do.

And the history of such public housing is that it will razed and not maintained and last about 10 years at the most become crime ridden and rat infested because the tenant don't care it's not theirs they aren't paying for it.

in California that likely means a moderate co-pay.

IMO these are words not actions. this will likely end right there.

He's an idiot. No wonder California has such a high population of homeless. People actually voted for this guy.

Kinda like letting a doctor determine whether you're stable enough to own a firearm. The constitution, that thing written by a bunch of guys way smarter and immersed in political turmoil than we are, well it's just not a thing to them. They'd rather keep trying the insanity route.

If that is what he meant that might be less crazy but that isn't what he said. He said "housing" not mental institutions...

It’s a nice way to say tossing people in the loony bin.

No. Two totally different meanings. It's not bad form to say "rehab" or mental facilities" instead of "housing" if that is what he meant.

Through general assistance if a doctor finds a qualifying patient disabled for longer than a month then a portion of their rent is paid to the landlord. A federal program, administered by the states.

    Cheers
