When white men killed bison the Indian tribes were absolutely doing the highest possible moral act to kill all the white men they could, scalp them, torture them, kill white women and children, and burn their farms and ranches.

Unfortunately for the Indians there were too many white men with too many goodly, fine rifles.

Rarely, indicates we can and it seems to me that given that war is our worst human to human offence that we could override killing and use the only other way to gain control of another country, which is trade, which is cooperation, which is our usual default position as it is the best survival strategy.

We have guided our instincts to that in the past and that is why I think our instincts to kill can be redirected to trade.

Human nature - that is, instinct - dictates that people almost invariably act in what they believe to be in their best interest; if a an interest can be achieved w/o the risk of harm, then so be it.
It doesn't diminish the fact that humans evolved to be mammalian predators, and behave as such when necessary.

Those people were murderers, rapists, child molesters. I've seen the remnants of their presence in towns all over SE Afghanistan. Kids with fingers cut off, girls afraid to leave their homes...

For some, the world is a better place without them.

It is purely a faith statement.

 

That is not at all what our "fittest" seek.
That is simply what our insane "egos" seek.

 

Not the ones I'm referring to...

But heres the thing, you can't beat someone in a conflict who has nothing to lose. They dont care for their families, or their country, or anything of value. I tell you to put down your rifle or I'll kill your family, you put down your rifle. They wouldn't. They've been brainwashed into thinking they're on some noble crusade. That's what I think a lot of people dont understand about them. You kind of get it, but you really dont understand how little they care about anything other than martyrdom.

And the only way to cut that out, is to kill them, which we did very successfully UNTIL we put the gloves on, tied our hands behind our backs, and changed our ROEs.

Still pisses me off to this day. We'd killed several in Musa Qala and the surrounding towns. They left. We got soft. They came back. When I first got there in 2010, everywhere around Sangin was basically a free fire zone. Then, things changed. We changed.

In war you're either all in or all out.

We were not all in.

 

We are Omnivores. We can eat both meat and some types of plants. In the past, we basically ate whatever was put in front of us.
