We're xenophobic, yet after 5,000 years, only 7 or 8% of people in China are minorities.

I am real curious what the real mortality rate is. I have a hard time believing China.

Italy & South Korea will provide a better pic of the mortality rate than the likely skewed number the CCP is providing.

One of the oddities I see is the lower infection rate for the young. That's a head scratcher.

Death rate in critically ill: 49% or higher
A total of 72,314 COVID-19 cases, diagnosed through Feb 11 were used for the study. Of the 72,314 cases, 44,672 were classified as confirmed cases of COVID-19 (62%; diagnosis based on positive throat swab samples), 16,186 as suspected cases (diagnosis based on symptoms and exposures only), 10,567 as clinically diagnosed cases (from Hubei province only, diagnoses based on symptoms, including lung x-ray), and 889 as asymptomatic cases (diagnosis by positive test result but lacking typical symptoms).

"Most cases were diagnosed in Hubei Province (75%) and most reported Wuhan-related exposures (86%; ie, Wuhan resident or visitor or close contact with Wuhan resident or visitor," the authors said.

Eighty-seven percent of patients were aged 30 to 79 years (38,680 cases). This age-group was the most affected by a wide margin, followed by ages 20 to 29 (3,619 cases, or 8%), those 80 and older (1,408 cases, or 3%), and 1% each in ages less than 10 and 10 to 19 years.

Of the confirmed cases, 1,023 patients—all in critical condition—died from the virus, which results in a CFR of 2.3%. The CFR jumped considerably among older patients, to 14.8% in patients 80 and older, and 8.0% in patients ages 70 to 79. Among the critically ill, the CFR was 49.0%.

A smaller study today based on 52 critically ill patients at a Wuhan hospital confirms this finding. Thirty-two of the 52 critically ill patients (61.5%) died, and older age and acute respiratory distress syndrome were correlated with mortality.

The authors of the smaller study also found that 30 (81%) of 37 patients requiring mechanical ventilation had died by 28 days.

Perhaps if you actually read the article you'd have noticed a few things. The funding is being cut in regards to us sending our people out of the US. That makes sense, they are here to protect us, not to use our money to do the work of other sovereign nations. We aren't the world's doctors, police, and babysitters. You folks should focus more on truth than half-truths and outright fictions…

NO! If you are showing signs of illness see a doctor. It is probably nothing, but if you are infected you will pose a threat to everyone around you, especially those you are in close contact with.

Get tested if there is a chance you are infected. That is how this stops.

Are you kidding? You didn’t just write that we could learn from China and then mention Xenophobia in the same sentence:) You understand their govt shuts off most of the internet because they don't want their population to even comprehend what the outside world is like? They are scared shitless of actually educating their populace accurately for fear of mass revolt. They’re forcing Hollywood to edit movies to their standards to be shown there for fear of the outside world. And there is little diversity because besides being very careful who they let in, very few want to live there except in the “good” places. The vast majority of their country is scary by our standards.

China is probably the most Xenophobic nation there is besides maybe N Korea.

That is wrong. You should definitely not go and see a doctor. For a start a doctor cannot make you recover any quicker so it would be pointless. Secondly just going to see a doctor will risk spreading the virus to the doctor, staff and other patients. What you should do is exactly what you would do if you have flu symptoms - stay indoors, telephone for medical help if needed

Within reason. Let's not even suggest self diagnosis. Sure, don't go to confirm your sniffles aren't CoronaV, but if in extremis with a high temp, short of breath and have underlying health issues, for God's sake GO. It could be something else that needs attention.

No, in the current climate you should phone for an ambulance or a home visit from a doctor or phone for medical advice, not go to a doctor especially if you have recently traveled to an area effected by the virus or been in contact with someone who has.

It can literally kill people who depend on china for meds. Like everything else china makes or supplies ingredients for our meds

Offshoring our self sufficiency could kill more of us than the virus .

I read where the last containers of goods will be in early march. If china is still in this epidemic look for empty shelves and no meds for the old folks like me.

You can blame our greedy elites and both parties for destroying our self suffiency and creating an Achilles Heel . And for destroying our middle class by the disemboweling.

I have the same fear also not only presently but in the future as well, outbreaks like this will ruin their economy and I have a good hunch that if an outbreak like this arise again they will keep at a top priority secret and prevent the dissemination of such an information. China is a very dirty country to do business with both hygiene and technology.
