It's because "Corona" is a family tree of the virus.
MERS and SARS are all kinds of Corona viruses.
10 to 15% of the common cold virus is a Corona virus.

Hence this is called CONVID19.
MERS is actually called MERS-COV.. where COV stands for COrona Virus.

All kinds of Corona viruses are around us. This one just happen to mutate into CONVID19 in China... where 1/4 of the world lives.

And they did a good job on that virus.
It was all new when it happened there.
Other countries had a headsup for months.

The virus has been named SARS CoV 2. The illness caused by the virus is named COVID-19.

No one is calling it a "Chinese thing". They called it a "Chinese virus" or "Wuhan Virus". Those not a "things", those are "places". You know like: LINK: WHO ~ Zika Virus (named after a location in Uganda), LINK: WHO ~ Japanese encephalitis, LINK: WHO ~ West Nile Virus etc etc etc.

No one is demanding that it must be called something Chinese. People are quite free to call it Convid19 or Chinese Virus or Wuhan Virus. The only ones demanding anything are those trying to claim that its racist to call it Chinese Virus or Wuhan Virus. Funny how such things weren't considered racist until Trump came along. The Liberal Left is quick to tell us about the origins of the virus which it dismisses as mere "coincidence", but strangely mute when it comes to formulating plausible theories about anything else....

Oh, and before you mention it, I'll go ahead and tell you that, yes, all the prominent, powerful nations on Earth have CBW (Chemical-Biological Warfare) programs. Our own has been around since the late 1960's that I know of. But, China?
