Recently the president’s critics have chosen curious ground to question his response to the coronavirus outbreak since it began spreading from Wuhan, China, in December.

It has been alleged by multiple officials of the Obama administration, including in The Post, that the president and his then-national security adviser, John Bolton, "dissolved the office" at the White House in charge of pandemic preparedness. Because I led the very directorate assigned that mission, the counterproliferation and biodefense office, for a year and then handed it off to another official who still holds the post, I know the charge is specious.​

Trump did shrink the bloated NSC -- because Obama had bloated it from 100 persons to 400 in just a few years.

But the NSC retained its epidemic personnel -- just merged with biodefense and counterprolifereation.

One such move at the NSC was to create the counterproliferation and biodefense directorate, which was the result of consolidating three directorates into one, given the obvious overlap between arms control and nonproliferation, weapons of mass destruction terrorism, and global health and biodefense. It is this reorganization that critics have misconstrued or intentionally misrepresented. If anything, the combined directorate was stronger because related expertise could be commingled.

The Fake News media eagerly and deliberately misleads the public -- yes, an "office" was dissolved. But most of the personnel making up that office were retained, and added to a new, merged office.

So they say "the office" was dissolved and intend you to take that to mean that the epidemic unit was disbanded.

That's a lie, but that's what they want you to believe.

Then Trump without planning created a Larger problem with his travel bans that the airport officials didn't have time to prepare for screening the mass groups

Obama did not need to take extreme measures for two reasons:

1- Several diagnostic tests were available on the market.

2- A vaccine was developed less than a month after the flu became a pandemic.

Jesus did you not read the follow up report from the same news paper? The reorganization started under OBAMA because you had 3 groups that needed to all be working under one authority together, from pandemic to bioweapons. The Pandemic staff was never fired, just more fake news but at least the same paper published it's error, I assume to save face.

I would like to see a lot more cleaning out of the administrative branch of government. You don't need a epidemic task force when there is no epidemic. We have one now because there is. I ignore what politicians say and focus on what they do. You do the opposite.

I hope the DNC is paying you for your bullcrap. How exactly does stopping travel spread the disease more than say Bernie's never close the border. You make a point that time is important and then criticize him for early reaction. Trump also never criticized the virus as a hoax, he was criticizing the media for creating panic for political reasons. They did, he was right.

 

I think Trump could have been more informed and not made stupid public announcements that the virus was 15, soon to be zero like magic kinda stuff

Trying to say that putting the CDC and pandemic groups that are staffed by Drs and Scientists into an overarching group filled with law enforcement and military is not a logical way to have things working together.

This is just another attempt to deflect and downplay a singularly stupid decision by the Trump admin.
