You're entitled to your opinion about what is and isn't appropriate, but the fact remains that outbreak originated in Wuhan, which is why the Chinese government shut down the Huanan Seafood Market where it is thought to have originated, and then locked down the city (Wuhan) and region (Hubei) around it. Had the outbreak originated elsewhere (as was the case with the Spanish Flu that didn't originate in Spain) you might have a valid point.

As for the reported spike in discrimination and xenophobic attacks, I haven't seen how the discrimination and attacks against Trump supporters have convinced you that the virulent anti-Trump rhetoric in some of your posts is inappropriate. For that reason/double-standard alone I can't be bothered with what you and many of your comrades consider inappropriate in this case, but that's secondary to the fact that the people responsible for the discrimination against Trump supporters, Asians and Asian Americans are responsible for their own actions, not other people and not the terms they use.

Again, I can only hope that everyone in this country has learned that the American people have made an enormous mistake relying on China for so many of the things we need. This over-reliance has exposed a vulnerability that needs to be remedied or we're going to go through this all over again when the next epidemic breaks out in China.

Yeah, Democrats usually only mention those affected as a segue to criticize Trump. Injuring Trump is the goal, not the health or well being of Americans. Ironically the Democrats own sloth and ineptitude is what placed them behind the issue. Now they are hurling insults as a means to catch up and appear relevant. By attempting to address the issues while at the same time attempting to destroy Trump, divides their energies. It also makes it harder for the actual leader of our country, Trump, to address the issue which is his responsibility. So Democrats are actually hurting the country.

 

Eh, it's all shop talk. I came down with influenza A (H3N2) back in the seventies. I always called it the Hong Kong Flu. While Covid19 is much easier to say than influenza A H3N2. Calling it the Wuhan virus has a certain homey appeal to it, invoking a sense of place and reality. And I'm almost certain that if the virus could talk, it would prefer to be known by its origin and place of birth. As for heading off possible discrimination by referring to its scientific designation......nonsense. We have laws to address that. Do only bigoted idiots refer to Ursus Arctos as a Grizzly Bear?

I never said that there wasn't "plenty" (a subjective term...ONE could be considered "plenty") of right wing racial motivated terrorism in the US. In fact there are a little over 1000 groups in the US that has been designated as hate groups by the SPLC. Of course most of those groups have at most only a few hundred followers. But don't let that get in your way of "massive" when comparing it to the whole of 300+ million people. Like I said... its bad. But not "massive". Back in the 1970's... yeah that was just about 5 years from the end of the apartheid era in the United States. there is circulating rumor now targeting the exact origin of the virus and I think it's quite plausible, noting the reluctance of China when US tried to assist them and now China's restrictions of US press trying to cover the outbreak there, China is trying to hide something and the bat woman is just a furnished alibi.
