Last week, according to this article from Fox News, Trump said this to Hannity:

Today at the rose garden briefing, according to this other article from Fox News, a reporter began asking Trump a question.

"You said repeatedly that you think that some of the equipment that governors are requesting, they don't actually need," Alcindor began. "You said New York might not need 30,000--"

Trump interrupted her before she could finish.

Defend this, Trumpers. Defend your hero. How can we take a president seriously when he denies a statement he made less than 48 hours ago? You guys say Joe is old and losing his memory. Is Trump losing his memory, too? Or is he just a liar.

Trump will gaslight anyone, he doesn't care if there is video to prove he is lying or not

he lies so much, it's just a new lie to add to the list

probably can't even remember his own lies anymore, he is getting old and senile

How about this, New York has about 55K cases, and about 1% will need ventilators. That is 550 ventilators to care for the current need. What do you do with the other 29,450? Let me tell you what you do, you prevent them from being distributed to other States who need them to save lives. So how about you wise up and stop believing every stupid idiotic political argument being spewed by hateful ignorant people.

So why did Trump deny making he statement instead of defending it? Why did he lie? Instead of explaining why Trump lied, you defended the statement he says he never made. Pathetic.

Also, where did you get that statistic that only 1% need ventilators? Seems made up.

Nothing to defend. The media loves taking what Trump says out of context in order to spin the narrative "Orange man bad".

It's a very easy calculation. About 2% who get the virus will die. You take that number and divide by two to get 1%.

Projected need, if they don't end up needing them or even if they do, they pass them on to other states when they need them

that is how they plan for a pandemic, for Trump to attack them over it is crazy, by doing this, Trump opens himself to be blamed for it if they do need them

the states and the experts been letting Trump know of these needs for weeks, Trump is late to the game in taking them seriously

How about the part where the word "governors" was never mentioned by Trump? Let's start there. When I'm off work I'll give you a list of things where the media has often taken things out of context.

were talking about this right here, what about the word "governors" was taken out of context

be specific in what the media said and what your saying was taken out of context

and how was this reporter "threatening" him, other than his fragile ego

I will say, the reporter kept her cool and remained professional, even under attack from this bully President

I already told you. Her question mentioned governor's.... Trump never mentioned governor's. Trump was specifically talking about hospitals. Hence the reason he said "major hospitals" and then "one or two ventilators and now all of a sudden they're requesting".

The quotes are right there in the OP.

Trump: ""I don't believe you need 40,000 or 30,000 ventilators. You know, you go into major hospitals sometimes and they'll have two ventilators and now all of a sudden they're saying, 'Can we order 30,000 ventilators?""

That is the full quote in context as provided by the OP without the media's interjections. As anyone can see the word "governor" was not used once by Trump. And the second sentence Trump is plainly talking about major hospitals. Also no where do you see "New York might not need 30,000--"

The word "governors", and "New York", was in fact interjected by the media itself. Both by that reporter asking her question "You said repeatedly that you think that some of the equipment that governors are requesting, they don't actually need," Alcindor began. "You said New York might not need 30,000--" and in that article were it states "Trump told host Sean Hannity, an apparent reference to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's recent claim that the state needed 30,000 ventilators." Notice the words "an apparent reference"? That is the media leading the reader towards a determined narrative. It's an opinion and assumption. It is spin. Not based on fact.

And Trump is correct, he didn't mention "governors" or "New York". So no, that reporter did not quote him directly as she claimed. She in fact lied. Not Trump.

so why did Trump just not answer the question then - he could have explained he did not mean New York, explained who he was attacking then? Which hospital? Where?

isn't that the point of a press conference, to answer questions and explain yourself

Trump knew he was wrong, that is why he was upset about the question, he just wants people to forget he ever said it

    https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/26/trump-ventilators-coronavirus-151311

""New York is a bigger deal, but it's going to go, also," Trump said. "But I have a feeling that a lot of the numbers that are being said in some areas are just bigger than they're going to be. I don't believe you need 40,000 or 30,000 ventilators.""

"You go into major hospitals sometimes, and they’ll have two ventilators. And now, all of a sudden, they’re saying, ‘Can we order 30,000 ventilators?’”"

"But during his daily news conference on Tuesday, Cuomo had said that the state would need a minimum of 30,000 ventilators to be able to respond to the climax of the outbreak, which is predicted to hit the state in about two weeks."

no one hospital is saying they need 30-40k ventilators, we all know what trump was referring too

Why bother answering questions that promote lies? Why not call out the lie? The media sure as hell isn't going to when they're the ones lying.

Additionally, ever hear of the "Loaded question fallacy"? That is what the reporter did. LINK: Loaded Question Fallacy

Maybe there will be bumper stickers in the fall:

    People died and Trump lied.

Actually, I hope Democrats don't descend to that kind of low level.

I see you edited your post.

I just read and then did a search of that politico article. I used the word "New York" for the search parameter. Guess what...no where did I find that first sentence (bolded) in that article. Where'd you get it from?
