They are all closed around here. Except for grocery and drug stores.

Just for perspective here in Colorado, grocery, pharmacy, hardware, alcohol and pot are considered essential businesses and are open.

This is America. Making a buck is paramount. I am quite sure that there are millions of Americans out there right now, trying to figure out how to make a profit off of this disease. You saw how well Puerto Rico was helped after it was devastated by a hurricane. With Republican rule, it is every man for himself, especially the president.

Same with Oregon. I counted the liquor and pot stores as drug stores. Many construction sites are also still operating. Beauty shops and barbers are closed, so people will be looking a bit shaggy once the virus blows over.

True., i thought we were talking in terms of our political leaders, not as individuals.

Well of course. We're supposed to exploit opportunities. When we stop doing that, we're truly doomed.

Nothing wrong with some profit if you are supplying needed supplies or services.

Taking advantage of people during the crisis not so much..

I think that this pandemic is going to force a paradigm shift. That business practices will shift, so as to accommodate public distancing. I think that one of the reasons the curve flatlined for the Chinese is because, due to the pollution, large numbers of people were in the habit of wearing protective masks in public. There might be a future in designer respirator masks. If people are willing to pay $5 for a plain white mask, what would they pay for a deluxe one that has some style and grace to it.

Businesses can do whatever they choose.. government on the other hand needs move on and forget all these emergency powers. Until they are absolutely necessary.

If this isn't a once in a lifetime or longer thing. Then we'll have bigger problems than people getting sick.

We don't really have to test everyone. We could focus on high-pop-density areas. We've had 8 cases in my entire county, and none more recent than 3 days ago. We also havn't shut much down except for schools. We don't need testing.

What we need is people to stay home!!!!!!

Yes it's boring as hell. But every time you go out your spreading germs

Peoples posts on Facebook about going fishing, hiking , going to the hardware store to get your essential flowers, barkdust and home remodeling supplies tell me they are not taking this seriously.

Get over your bad old selves and stay home so we can get this over with.

I don't see how going fishing or hiking is hurting anything. Unless you're shoulder to shoulder combat fishing next to folks then fishing seems like one of the most isolated activities you can do....Well unless you're on a charter or something.

Except that people are stopping for gas and snacks and general germ dropping all along the way.
Boulder county health officials are complaining that hiking trails are dangerously crowded.

I agree with you though . Combat fishing is not fishing.

In the case of COVID-19, it is every man for himself. Lock yourself and family in your house and don't leave. That's how we will all be safer and the virus will quickly wither away.

Most exploitation is technically 'taking advantage'. Good to remind ourselves we live in free market democracies, therefore almost all transactions outside those with the state, are voluntary. EG, if someone was laughed a month ago when were advised to lay in additional stores, and so now they have to pay $100 for a roll of toilet paper .. they volunteered for that potential outcome in their refusal to plan ahead.

Yes, it's freaking unbelievable. I know several people who are going out as much as they always did, and one who is going out MORE than she ever did. Her explanation? She's using the time at home to eat more fresh produce, so goes shopping every 2 or 3 days.

People are either incredibly selfish, or incredibly stupid. I'm not sure which, at this point.

I live on the edge of a national forest, which is currently closed to vehicles. Every day the streets around the gate area are packed with cars (it's normally quiet and empty), and there are far too many people on the trails. It's not locals, because locals tend to walk in. That means people from the edges of the neighbouring big city living in built-up areas are descending on the nearest large open space. It's become as busy as the shopping mall. Friends who live on the coast say the same is happening there. Beaches swarming with 'walkers' from sunrise to midnight.

It's understandable that people in urban areas are going stir crazy, but they really shouldn't be doing anything that requires driving. And they most certainly shouldn't be allowing their kids to run amok outdoors, as many seem to be doing. It's as though the rules don't apply to their kids.

It is if you're doing it in the same place millions of others are trying to do it. Beaches, National Forests, Parks, etc.

Just don't. Get up at 4am and walk around your block a few times instead.

    EXACTLY!

My opinion is that if you choose to live in a city, then you choose the limitations that go with it. This isn't the same as a great flood or something .. where we in the rural areas would happily help you out to save your life.

Unfortunately I have very little sympathy for city dwellers. In my country they're the rich and elites, so there's nothing unreasonable about that.

Oh, well yeah in that case.

I live in a pretty remote place to where I rarely ever see another soul while fishing under normal circumstances let alone nowadays. So I'm sure it's pretty safe for me to go fishing I highly doubt I'll be the one spreading the virus around. Plus I kinda need to eat too....

We are getting there thanks to the task force and our wonderful private sector.
