Fox News Fears Its Early Downplaying of Coronavirus Could Lead to Lawsuits

    Vanity Fair special correspondent Gabriel Sherman, the author of The Loudest Voice in the Room, about Fox News CEO Roger Ailes’s rises and fall at the network, says Fox News’s decision to oust prime time host Trish Regan was done to limit legal liability. The decision came after Fox News downplayed the threat of the coronavirus pandemic in recent weeks.

    “Fox News tried to do their original playbook, which was dismiss it as a hoax, say that this is another partisan attempt by Democrats to hurt Donald Trump, and this was the case where they could not prevent reality,” Sherman said. “Fox News is a very powerful media organization, but it cannot stop people from dropping dead.”

    Sherman added that his conversations with Fox insiders revealed “a real concern inside the network that their early downplaying of the coronavirus actually exposes Fox News to potential legal action by viewers who maybe were misled and actually have died from this.”

    I think it is a Fantastic Idea.

    The Idea of suing Faux News.

    They deserve to be held liable for downplaying this deadly threat.

    They certainly should have the money to pay.

    Given the amount of money that they've come up with to pay off lawsuits involving forced sex and sexual harassment.

    The way that they handled the early days of the Virus Outbreak proved conclusively that they are State-Sponsored Media (who take their marching orders from Trump).

    Apparently, it DIDN'T Matter to Faux News that their Parroting of Trump's Delusions would lead to Increased Deaths.

    Trump's lawsuits are worthy of a comedy routine, as when Trump sued HBO comedian Bill Maher for suckering Trump into sending his birth certificate to prove he was not the "spawn" of an orangutan, and Trump hit back with a $5-million breach-of-contract lawsuit, only to withdraw it after the Hollywood Reporter ridiculed it. Can anyone say Hustler v. Falwell?

    I don't see how FOX could be liable. They are not an official source of info like the CDC or the government is, and I doubt it could be shown that they intentionally misled people.

    But either way, I do hope they've learned a lesson from it, as I also do for Trump.
