We are doing this in order to AVOID being crippled. We are simply pausing.

    Try to grasp the difference.

It's not the 'death rate' which has caused the worldwide response ... it's the speed that it was reached. Seriously, how are people still not aware of this?

Death rates for this month, year over year.

    Bad plan then.

The economic disaster looming will dwarf the death and damage for the virus in both scale and duration across the globe and in the US.

We choose the greater of two evils this time.

People are, some people can just place this in perspective as well as other aspects of this.

Watch the death rate in the third world after C19 has passed and war and famine take their toll because of economic devastation. It will be far worse than the virus.

We've done 1.7 million tests now and that's on priority cases and we're still only getting a 20% positive rate. There aren't a lot of people out there who have it. That makes it deadly but also easier to control. Japan seems to be getting by on school closures and just everyone being really really careful and it's worked so far.

    You can't simply pause.
    It's not an on/off switch.

They really think it is a simple turn on / turn off situation. They have no true ideal of what lies ahead.

I need to clarify what you are saying...... Is "politically good" in your eyes in the National interest?......or is it in the global, consolidation of power, interest? To me, a good deal is only in the National interest. I know of no other nation I would care to immulate.

I would say yes. Responsibility is a "different thing". Live free or die.

Yes, but in the United States we consider the States autonomy. In a nation this large we recognize a central government does not no the specific of every single locale, so we do not surrender that complete authority. A Central elite does not always know what's best.

Average deaths per day from all causes in the whole of Italy is 1800.

We have seen close to this daily figure just in a small area in the north of Italy die from this one disease. Add on the other deaths from all causes in the whole of Italy and that 1800 will be smashed

The numbers just don't work do they?

    9,600 deaths to date.

24 days infection to death. Infection to symptoms 5 days. Symptoms to dearh 19 days.
    5 + 19 = 24 days.

Assuming worst case 1% CFR and 3 day doubling over 24 days (8 times = factor of 256).

    9,600 × 100 = 960,000 infected cases 24 days ago.

    960,000 × 256 = 254,760,000

    Oops!

Change totals to just represent NYC Metro area 5,000 fatalities and CFR to 2, and cycle to 5 days.

    That's 20,250,000 cases.

    Oops.

Time to focus on Antibodie tests.

So you are sure that their death rates during this period are statistically out of range compared to those of previous years? Positively sure?

Huge majority of all the deaths have occurred in a small area of Italy so it follows that the death rate in this area will have dramatically increased due to this virus, whereas the death rate in other parts of Italy will have increased by a lesser amount. Number of deaths are still increasing worldwide due to this virus and will increase for the next 18 months on top of the near usual amount of deaths

No. But I know well enough to have these thoughts before making claims, like Trump just wants to make us a "good deal". What does that mean, and what role will he get in the deal?

    1. 24 days to die from this is the extreme end. The average time is around 20 days (which surprised me, I thought it was 10 days)

    2. A lot of people changed their behavior earlier than 24 days ago, so the doubling rate would be slower.

Or ... the East will be more powerful than ever, with a much reduced Europe, UK, and US. It could happen, given the statistics on this disease.

Yeah, it's all Italy's fault. America, Spain, Germany, and the UK haven't contributed anything.

It's temporarily curtailed, nothing more. Look what happened in Italy when the people decided they didn't want to be locked in their homes.

A lot of us do, and consider a few months at home an acceptable price to pay. We know it will take years (perhaps generations) for the economy etc to recover. Assuming we want to return to a mirror image of what was. Not everyone does.
