As most nations around the world endure the mandated separation to contain the spread of the virus, will it bring the end to tightly packed skyscraper office buildings and residential housing. Now that the general public has seen how easily this particular virus was transmitted from proximity, will people be reluctant to subjecting themselves to densely crowded work or residential environments in the future.

Doubtful....nor necessary if we institute everything we are learning from this incident. Prevention is still the key.

Proximity is the arch enemy helping spread this virus.

Interesting question. The answer will be how much and how fast hi-rise real estate values drop and how quickly they empty. My big fear now is the exodus from large urban areas, even suburban areas to rural areas. Anyone with large tracts of land will jump on this if it becomes a trend. Bad enough our landscapes are being covered with solar farms. I would prefer solar farms to a glut of people.

This could be particularly relevant if this virus does reoccur annually as some are saying.

It better not be, our rural wildlife habitat is far too important to let all the city dwellers leave the city..

Many companies that are doing business from homes right now, may very well decide they no longer need very expensive real estate in mighty skyscrapers??

Personally I wouldn't jump to any conclusions as of yet; let's all wait for several months to see how this all plays out.

Where do you think a lot of those people are working from? They'll just turn those skyscrapers into more high rise apartments...

What would they even do? They pile on top of each other for a reason. They can't really leave if they have nothing to go to...

It depends on what Party is in the WH. Skyscraper sardine deaths due to whatever illnesses or terrorist acts will be swept under the rug in Democrat Administrations and exaggerated akin to the very embodiment of the bubonic plague during GOP Administrations.

Don't bother lying and denying it. Only question remains is, in the net age, how long will the public, even simpletons, be fooled by it going forward.

There will bee a lot of changes all over the world as a result of this virus and it's well communicated spread around the world. This is the first pandemic during the 24 hour around the world news cycle, where all parts of our world learn of it very quickly.

There’s been a move afoot for years to work from home. I have for the last year and a half.

When I served on a city planning commission out west years ago we were stepping up on live/work developments.

I can envision the resistance toward the effort fading.

I think Americans will need to prove to employers that they can be as productive at home as they can in the office.

Because how fast technology develops, I can see that in the not so distant future, but not likely going to be a direct result of this pandemic.

YEs, the drive to work from home, and all the tech to do that, will allow us to move into rural areas, that before were job prohibitive. That and purchasing all you need, and having it delivered, means that there will not be any hick towns, only sea to shining sea of homes. With the maroons, complainin g about the NEW YORKIFICATION, and the CALIFORNIFICATION of their beloved backwaters.

This virus will change how people look at things and which manufacturing industries must remain domiciled at home, and which can be farmed out to take advantage of cheap labor.

And we will burn the rest of the rain forest to grow your food? How far are you willing to drive to a baseball game? Or a concert? Or will you have a stadium for every 100 square miles? You might want to think this through a little.

I have two thoughts on that.

    1. Medicine should be sourced domestically.
    2. We should export no raw natural resources.

The technology is there to track production for many that could work from home and has been for quite some time.

Sure, trust is about all they have to work from in a position like mine.

FYI, IMO the deluge of unnecessary meetings doesn’t slow if you’re at the office or home:)

    Clearly cities are a failure in an age of pandemics. I have a modest proposal;

Limit the population of cities to no more than 100,000.

Burn down buildings in cities with populations higher than that.

Prohibit apartment buildings and only allow single family housing.

No public transportation. Private automobiles only.

It's the only way to be sure.
