Except that it does and was.

The idea behind the distancing was to keep hospitals from being overrun. When hospitals are overrun, ALL CARE is affected, not just for those with the virus. People will die of things they may not have died from before because the resources that would normally save them are stretched well beyond the breaking point. And lets remember the most essential component of health care are human beings who can also get sick. So when you have hospitals whose resources and space are overtaxed coupled with a workforce that is overworked, exhausted, under-supplied, and falling victim to the same virus that is crippling their institutions, people will die, both those with the virus and those without, and they will die because of the reasons I just gave you. That's in addition to those who would have died anyway.

So maybe you need a better understanding yourself before you attack others for what you see as a deficit in theirs.

Expect that is exactly the point, preventing health care from being maxed out, how are you guaranteeing that it wouldn’t be maxed out?

Unfortunately the seasonal flu goes through equatorial zones just as easily as it does the cold northern latitudes in winter. In some places there's MORE of it.

Interesting that Trump himself just said he was against the opening of barber shops, hair stylists, nail salons and tattoo parlours in Georgia. He will, he admitted, leave it to the Governor to decide for himself, but he just said he was against it.

I suspect America's problems existed prior to COVID.

Meantime, I'm a natural enemy of welfare in all but genuine cases (ie, the person is about to starve to death through no fault of their own), and am also opposed to state socialism of any kind. Further, our personal financial situation may very well be impacted by this shut down, going forward. As is our childrens' education and job prospects - but none of that matters in an emergency. This isn't the time to be worrying about the impacts on ourselves .. it's a literal war. Do you think people resisted the War Effort in the 1940's because they couldn't go to the hairdresser? Do you think they protested rationing because their gym was closed? Do you think they had public tantrums because they lost their jobs and had to eat potatoes and cabbages for 6 years?

The world changes. It changes via wars, famines, and plagues. The fine details of the lives of those who live through the shift are not relevant. We're all in it together, fighting a common enemy.

I don't think anyone is trying to 'stop' it. The countries which have gained some control over it were always seeking a protracted growth rate below 1%. That's enough to allow a return to business. We have that in my country, and a few others .. so the lock down measures have worked exceptionally well. Better than predicted, actually.

Not to mention the fact that Georgia is currently getting whacked pretty hard by the virus

Sadly...we'll all learn from their mistake

Or we may learn opening up can be done successfully. Time will tell. Sadly you are obviously hoping people die in mass.

You have zero data to substantiate any of this hypothetical guess work.

A haircut isn't worth risking your life over

They can open up I suppose but precious few will go for it....especially when people start getting sick again

States that didn’t lock down are not having any worse a time than those that did.

Ahh man I admit that sucks and when the market gets back up I would suggest start looking at cash options you don't want to relying entirely on the market through retirement but you'll be fine and it will get back to where it was in short order.

Yeap the Governors decision does not match what the feds are suggesting. It seems early to most considering where Georgia is with this virus but it's the state's call. There are several states that aren't in near as bad shape as Georgia that are phase 1ing it now and that's the proper thing to do.
