Meaning the proposed restrictions are not truly needed in the first place.

Voters have been calling for tougher gun laws for a long time because every time a shooting happens, it creates a trauma in the population.

We are lucky because we don't have a gun lobby to buy off politicians and make the public believe that people have to be armed to feel safe.

You prefer to be unarmed and have the cops show up in half hour after a crime to draw a chalk line around your body, go ahead. Not me or my family. Armed US civilians stop about as many crimes every year as the police do. The NRA is my favorite civil rights organization, it isn't the tiny amount the NRA gives to politicians that make them vote as they do, it is the will of the people and the US Constitution.

The fact it can occur at all shows it’s not effective.

Gun registration is a prelude to confiscation, they then know who has what. Beto called for the confiscation of 'assault weapons', and Biden said he would be in charge of his gun policy, so there's that. I have no clue why any gun owner would ever vote for a Democrat.

Canada doesn't have our demographic makeup, 90%+ of NYC murders and victims are black or hispanic.

That's your idea of lucky :) Canada will always be armed simply because they live next to the U.S. :)

You need to read and understand our rights to protection, one is Government tyranny and yes there is much of that nowadays, And Canada is realizing it first hand! ;)

And BTW the poster you quoted said nothing about killing anyone and used the word protect from.. You are fabricating meaning to what wasn't said!

    He said

“And protect me from people that people like you want to elect to power.”

What kind of “protection” is needed from an elected official? The kind of “protection” that requires a weapon?

Sorry but that is a threat of violence and nothing else.

You have no idea as to how many semi auto rifles are currently in Canada nor does the government. I have been in many fly-in fishing trips and every camp I have ever visited had a substantial supply of AK47's to accompany customers on portages and hikes through the woods. When asked if the government allowed such armament, all we got back was a finger to their lips and a smile.
Love the people but the government has always been f--in the head and totally ignored by real Canadians.

How can it not help? I mean mentally unstable mass shooters certainly wont violate such a clear ruling on gun ownership. That would be illegal!

Wow, I never looked at it that way, it's so clear now. (I had to dictate this post because I'm in a straight jacket)

What else would you expect from a hyperliberal, Left-wing Socialist? Of COURSE Trudeau and his faction want to 'grab the guns' -- that's a large part of everything they stand for! Disarm the population so that they are much easier to control! Poor Canada... those people deserve better than an Obama-'wanna-be' like Trudeau.

Nah, they deserve whatever they allow to happen.. It dates back to their roots where lords kept the lands and allowed the indentured commoners to work it for their masters.. It's a habit they slip into easily and are comfortable in ;)

That is cognitive dissonance. Your logic says then that if you don't register your gun you cannot keep it. If you have a legal firearm per your right, then the only reason for registration is so the government can find you and take it away.

Canada is not ruled under a Constitution with anywhere near the established authority as ours. Their prime minister (Executive) is not a separate branch of government and can rule nearly as a dictator unless and until Parliament gets mad at him and calls for and gets a vote of no confidence.
