The US and EU populations are not the same. The EU has about 100 million more inhabitants than the US. Nonetheless, if it makes far-more-sense to be comparing those two entities rather the US with individual EU countries!

Which is what happens here: Daily Covid Deaths by Region

The EU is far more effective ...

Deaths per million show how well the fight is being waged.

As of yesterday, May 2, the deaths per million looked like this:

    Spain 537
    Italy 474
    United Kingdom 417
    France 380
    Switzerland 205
    United States 202
    Germany 82

    https://covidgraph.com/

This site has a ton of graphs. Go about 20% down the site and click on deaths per million.

This same set of graphs offers cases per million and recoveries per million with a just a click.

The EU is not. In fact the EU is a mess as we all saw during BREXIT, trying to destroy cultures by forcefully merging them is never "more effective".

Now, can I see your papers?

Much of the pressure to increade immigration is because the population of the regular population is getting older and population dropping.

Someone needs to do the work.

On a per capita basis, the US and EU are now effectively tied. The US is at 209.652 deaths per million and the EU is at 210.48. But the US, over the last 7 days, has added 20.6 more deaths per million than the EU. Over the last 3 days, the US has gained 7.9 deaths per million against the EU.

The US will pass the EU tomorrow and continue to accelerate past unless something extreme happens.

The EU being able to band together is the reason why they are doing better than the UK and the US.

I was speaking about the erasing of national identity the EU pushes in favor of the "European" identity they want their "citizens" to have. Partially what made the UK leave, a wise choice reinforced by the EU little tantum they threw when the Union Jack was in their presence in Brussels the day the UK left.

The papers comment was regarding how some French people like having the authorities ask them for their papers on the streets of France. You think the Germans would have ensured that was never the case but as we see today some in France favor "security" over liberty. Sad really as France was so important historically in the birth of liberty, not they toss it aside.

Yes, and that is the central problem with such sites. It's called, in proper English, Obfuscation - the the action of making something obscure, unclear, or unintelligible. A series of any data does that marvelously well if there is no interpretation!

I would rather see some well-argued "conclusions" than just the raw-data (which mean nothing unless time-wise they show pertinent changes). No such analysis is made so far - and thus yes it is key information gathering. But, the hard-part is interpreting the data towards effecting solutions ...

With so much variation in how deaths are reported and cause of death assigned, any comparison at the moment is pretty much meaningless.

Forexample Germany only reports Covid deaths when directly responsible, UK reports where Covide is mentioned on the death certificate and includes care home deaths not just hospitals.

Even looking at the number of additional deaths is not that easy to do if you want to assign direct responsibility to the virus as there a lot of factors involved. Not of car related deaths probably down in some countries but there could be a increase in deaths due to people not seeing their doctor or visiting A&E (Emergency) as the number of people attending has dropped a lot.

It may be better to look at secondary factors to see how well countries performed, ICU and critical capacity utilisation for example.

Ya gotta start somewhere. The daily-reports are useless. Yes, people are dying by the thousands. And so?

Well, which measures are working the best to reduce deaths? Does "National Lockdown" significantly affect the per-capita death count!

Meaning asking the question: Does a country really want to save lives or just save government expenditures (that financing a total lock-down would require)!

NB: That is all that really matters.

I always have to shake my head when some of our american friends here talk about european politics thinking they have a deep understanding.
Brexit was/is chaotic, yes, it's without precedent, that's why, very simple. Plus, the fact that the British government couldn't make up its mind doesn't mean the EU is a mess, what nonsense. The EU is not destroying cultures (clearly another wannabe expert interpretation re migration and the european integration process), on the contrary, european leaders are fully aware of cultural differences which our friends from across the pond would be familiar with if they closely followed the current debates. However, that would take an awful lot of time and the possibility of realizing that one's carved in stone narrative might not be accurate.
Anyway, given the current Corona situation, why should we compare the EU and the US? Why compare a country to a political entity consisting of 27 countries. I also fail to see why it should be important who handles the situation better. Some countries (EU: Austria, Germany, Non-EU: Israel, South Korea) are doing rather well, others have been hit really hard. Any black-and-white analysis is completely meaningless.

That is somewhat ironic given you opened the thread talking about comparing the US and the EU but presented a graph based on geographic regions including Europe and North America. ;)

    Sydney Brain and Mind Center:

Far more Australians will kill themselves because of coronavirus lockdown than those who die of the virus, experts say.

    • New research predicts suicides could double across Australia due to COVID-19
    • Modelling shows suicide rates could be four times higher than corona deaths
    • Experts are concerned there could be a generational mental health crisis
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...edicted-die-suicide-coronavirus-lockdown.html

It is becoming clear that the direct effects of coronavirus pale in comparison to the indirect effects.

That logic is incredibly short sighted. The only potential reason that Australia might see a larger indirect harm from the virus is because they have done such a great job minimizing the direct impacts of the virus.

Ok, then let me put it to you in a different way.

If Australia did a piss poor job of controlling the virus, then the deaths caused directly by the virus would far outpace the indirect deaths created by the attempts to mitigate the virus.

Blue State Governors in the US have become quite proficient at fraudulent cause of death designations. They aren't even hiding the fact that a death caused by blunt force trauma is blamed on COVID-19 if the deceased had any sign of COVID-19. They don't even bother testing people who die with flu-like symptoms. Those deaths are automatically attributed to COVID-19 without testing.

    We love our socialists.

Not true. China owns the hospitals in Australia. While our blue hot spot governors want COVID deaths to spike, China wants the numbers they report to approach zero.

....that is two conspiracy theories in one sentence. Neither of which is true.
