Wearing a mask reduces risk of spreading the virus and also reduces the risk of contracting the virus. The risks are reduced significantly if everyone wore a mask as can be seen in those Far eastern countries

actually, it's a false sense of security but if you feel that it makes you morally superior, then good for you. We need more leftists with superiority complexes. I have relatives who fought in the 1940's and got injured to bring down a country which also thought they were the superior people. How soon we forget the danger of leftists.

Sec. You have to admit that if someone sneezes or cough with and without a mask there is a very different level of germ spread potential. And regardless of the actual minimal chances of getting truly sick washing your hands before and after leaving varying locations is just common courtesy at this point.

Creating a video right now about reopening policy at my workplace. It’s going to be quite different.

washing hands is the BEST DEFENSE not because the virus enters through your fingers, but because we pick our noses and rub our eyes.

Masking up does very little because you need to reach a certain virus load and walking through your sneeze just won't do it, nor will chatting with you for a few minutes on the street. The best place for us is outdoors at beaches, parks, campgrounds and hiking trails; you know, all of the places that were closed due to panic, not facts.

No point if you're constantly touching your face and your defences are down because you think just covering your mouth and nose will save you. What about your eyes?

Little difficult to pick your nose if you have a mask on. Walking through a sneeze spray or cough is much more riskier than touching a contaminated surface as the virus load is already airborne just waiting for an unmasked person to walk by and breathe it in. Unlike whatever you've picked up on your fingers which is drying up by the second. Wash hands when you get home after taking off your mask

Mine are the valved type. They have the square plastic button on the front. You inhale through the mask but exhale through the valve.

The county I work in calls them out by name as a no-go.
I like them for PPE because the non-valved type fog up my safety glasses.

How on earth did the big cats at the Bronx zoo catch the virus is what I would like to know.

Of course it is possible that the tests were false positives.

My guess is that there was no one crazy enough to try to put a mask on one of those very big cats.

sure, it's riskier than not having one but that same sneeze lands on your sleeves, your shoelaces, your pants and you touch those "safe places" and then pick your nose or rub your eyes.
Maybe where you live you have a lot of people who cough or sneeze in your direction but I sure as heck don't nor are there many people I see who are coughing or sneezing.

Again, if it makes you feel morally superior or provides to you a false sense of security, then wear those cute little home-made masks and hold your head high

As for gloves, I find it intriguing with the folks that I see all masked up with gloves, touching everything and then adjust their mask, touch their face, their cell phones etc. But, they are masked up so they are safe.....................

Six feet alone isn't enough? A face covering alone isn't enough? It's rather the combination of both that somehow stops the virus from spreading? This is truly laughable.

Neither six feet nor a face covering will stop a virus from spreading (nor stop anyone from contracting it). Viruses travel farther than six feet and they are smaller than the pores of face coverings.

Not to stop the spread of viruses.

Mostly agree Sec. I've seen the new reports. But if you sneeze a mask contains it within inches, vs without a mask you're spewing 6-8 ft. Obviously under normal breathing the mask is more for preventing you from touching your face, since particles aren't being ejected/launched across a room=) Outside, its all fairly meaningless, since its easy to just stand 6 ft apart. Of course if someone actually infected, sneezes in your direction even outside, your chances are still better with a mask...assuming you even catch it in the first place.

Fear mongering is calling for that, not medical science.

Mathematics tells us that masks do not stop viruses. Science tells us that viruses travel MUCH farther than six feet. Hand washing (say before meals) is a good thing, but excessive hand washing is not a good thing. It is generally a good thing for your immune system to be exposed to various bacteria/viruses.

    It would make no difference.

** Not all spittle is contained inside of a mask.
** Viruses are smaller than mask pores.
** Viruses are on one's hands/clothes/etc, and people touch things that other people touch (and breathe where other people have breathed).

There's much more to it than containing mouth spittle.
