Yes, but one notices that the educational quality of the public school systems went into deep decline only after the political Left took effective control over the system starting during the middle to late 1960s. Progressively -- ha! -- after that point, hard education was gradually supplanted with social engineering efforts and inculcation in Politically Correct doctrine. Private tutors do not have to do any of that crapola. They can simply teach and clarify.

Give everyone, rich, poor, black, white, the equal opportunity to get the substandard government education they so deserve. Why should the children of the rich and/or powerful be afforded the opportunity of good high quality private education while the children of the masses get the scraps.

An excellent question that begs how poorly the left who control education in this nation have treated those kids, huh.... What now? Teachers just believe in their own lives, not the lives of their kids or their futures, and schools won't be reopening, because it causes folks who work more pain. And pain is just the lever the left believe in to get folks to vote for democrats come the fall... It's insidious.

Government should have nothing to do with education. Ultimately, education is about performance and results. If a school can't produce either, it shouldn't be operating. In a free market, it wouldn't continue operating. Also, schools should have nothing to do with your child's social/political/religious views (unless it's a specialized school). Math, science, language... nothing more, nothing less.

Parents have been hiring tutors forever. This doesn't take anything away from the kids whose parents can't/don't hire tutors, so I don't really see a problem.

If someone wants to "level the playing field", do it by improving public education, not by taking away from kids who can afford better options.

"Fair" also shouldn't be mistaken for "equal".

Let's see parents who were 'educated' in government schools, post 1970, trying to teach their children. Talk abut the 'blind leading the blind'

    and there you have it....

Everyone is entitled to a basic education.

Why can't parents provide more if they want to? I am not "rich and powerful" and I provide more education to my child then just the public school.

Cause it's not fair and leads to racial inequality. AND isn't this country on the fair and racially equal path. So if education, one of the most bedrock principles of society, is so biased how can the country ever be fair and equal.

So DUMB every school down to 'government' school levels or raise the bar on all 'government' schools to private school levels. NO more two or more ties education for our children based upon who can pay for better schools.

Course "Life isn't fair.....and no not everyone is equally smart or educated". But it is the governments obligation, if they are going to be in the education business, to insure that everyone has the same access to high quality education across the board. Want to keep the rich and powerful running things, let your kids get educated entirely different than theirs. Money, power and connections will keep your kids as serf's to the new class of lord's and ladies.

How so? Most can only teach based upon what they were taught and education in this country has been heading toward the bottom since at least the early 70's.

No it's not the Govts obligation to make sure life is fair or that everyone is equal or has equal outcomes.

The Govt does provide a basic education, that is of good quality, but not everyone is the same and takes advantage of it, or does the work required to be educated.

I think your intentions may be good, but your implementation is severely flawed.

There is simply NO way to completely level the playing field ---- and taking away from the more fortunate to make their playing field level with the less fortunate seems like a horrible idea also.

Some kids have genius parents who can help them with homework, and they may have tutors, and they may have time and a quiet work space and the latest tech devices for doing homework and whatever.... While other kids may not even know who Dad is, Mom is a highschool dropout who's strung out on drugs, and the kid lives in a filthy sh*thole and is expected to pretty much raise their siblings when they're not at school, and forget having the latest tech devices because Mom pawned them for crack. Those kids could all go to the exact same school together, but you will never, ever entirely level that playing field.

The field will never be leveled. Sadly. At least not until the poor communities learn that proper education starts in the home with good parenting. Taxes in many States, property taxes from rich communities, are diverted to support the poorer communities but that money is just thrown down a black hole. You can't establish good communities when you have single Mothers raising 8 kids and a min. wage job. Gangs take root, young lives destroyed and communities destroyed. It will never end as long you have these issues.

It is a shame that the political Left controls public education in this nation and that they are also so very bad at teaching. But it is what it is.

So you agree public schools suck ass?

That's why they tutor their kids. Because government run anything sucks.

Do you have a problem with parents spending their own money to educate their children? I don't.

If they can afford it, good for them. It's none of my (or your) business.

LIFE IS NOT FAIR... the parents earned what they have and the greatest incentive they have is to be able to pass their hard work gains on to their children. To take that away would destroy Capitalism and hard work.

Your whole premise is evil, disgusting, and can stay with Communist / Socialist nations.
