    Decided not to center this thread around any specific choices by any President and instead turn it into a rather simple resource thread by which we might try to find patterns and maybe glean a little perspective on the thinking of whichever President in whichever era we are interested. I don't have a perspective or opinion to sell except that history matters, historical precedent matters and how our chief executives see the use of this little discussed authority should have more focus. just a link or two to peruse for a discussion that gets its direction from those that might be inclined.

    I think this thread got buried under a lot of figurative rubble of the riots. Even I forgot I wrote it !

    I won't name any names in keeping with your choice to make this a discussion of the generalities. With that said, I was recently stunned to learn the President pardoned one of the most crooked <position withheld> in our state's history. Unconscionable. I don't really understand why/how that should be allowed to happen. Of course, people want to pardon their friends and cronies. They should recuse themselves or at least redefine things so there is no conflict of interest.
