Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam is expected to announce plans Thursday to remove one of the country’s most iconic monuments to the Confederacy, a statue of Gen. Robert E. Lee along Richmond’s prominent Monument Avenue, a senior administration official told The Associated Press.

The Democratic governor will direct the statue to be moved off its massive pedestal and put into storage while his administration seeks input on a new location

Also on Wednesday, Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney announced plans to seek the removal of the other Confederate monuments along Monument Avenue, which include statues of Confederate President Jefferson Davis and Confederate Gens. Stonewall Jackson and J.E.B. Stuart. Those statues sit on city land, unlike the Lee statue, which is on state property.

I always love to get the statue-heads involved..... what's it going to be today? A deflection to that phony yearbook story or Ralph's stance on women's health issues? I'm sure I'll see that yearbook photo by post #7...

I'm sure my fellow Virginian @Talon will be up in arms over this as well.....

My stance on these statues has been consistent. I have no issues with Civil War era statues in Military Battlefields and Parks, where they belong. I assume he'll find a good home soon enough, being there is no shortage of Military Battlefields in Virginia, and it's even possible one of them doesn't already have a statue of Lee.

After that, it's up to the localities to decide, which is what is happening with the other statues. I hope they also find a good home, although Jefferson Davis probably doesn't deserve to be in a Military Park. Not sure where he'll end up.... Perhaps Fort Monroe in Hampton, where he was imprisoned after the war??

    What say ye?

Just because you erase the evidence of the past doesn't mean it didn't happen. I think its sad and somewhat ridiculous. Seems liberals would rather hide the past than learn from it.

Put it in a museum — next to the nazi exhibit seems appropriate

Hurry! We must, I say, we must virtue signal! Especially given that we haven't got a damn clue about how to serve our constituents, whether we're governing over Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York or Michigan. And we sure as hell have got no clue if we get the WH back.

    Doesn't go far enough.

The Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument and White House must be dismantled and put in storage along with THOUSANDS of other national treasures which someone somewhere might find offensive.

What better use of overstretched public resources than virtue-signaling led by Democrat criminals that leads to the removal, warehousing and destruction of irreplaceable works of public art?

    Absolutely.

In addition, the Barack Obama Presidential Center must NOT be built, as he's a monstrous child-murdering war criminal.

Needless to say, Washington DC must be renamed after the Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument and numerous other vestiges of terrorism and racism are destroyed.

THAT is - by far - the best use of public funds in the wake of hundreds of millions in riot damages caused by the Democrat Lockdown.

The quarantine imposed by both Democratic as well as Republican states caused riots?
I must have missed this news piece...

I see the riots caused by a registered Republican and currently incarcerated police office sparked riots — after a man was chased down and then shot in the middle of the street and was followed by a no knock police raid that took an innocent woman’s life (we can assume their political affiliation as I don’t care to look them up). The only things I saw from the quarantine were armed protestors shutting down state capitols?

Here is a fun fact, last year, 19 unarmed whites were killed by police VS 9 blacks. Yet no riots. Were guns allowed in the buildings? Was anyone shot?

Guess how many deaths and shooting in the riots? How many will likely happen, by dawn?....EDIT....right on cue.....http://www.politicalforum.com/index.php?threads/2-officers-shot-1-stabbed-in-brooklyn-police.573442/ (before my edit time, even expired)

Yup - the Democrat Party demanded lockdowns, and seems Hell-bent on burning the country to the ground.

    Common sense makes this clear.

Democrats (& RINOS) see all kinds of strange things: interference, collusion, Nazis under their beds...

They also don't see horrendous war crimes - including widespread child murder - by monsters like Obama.

    Eyes wide shut.

I don't live in Virginia so it isn't really any of my business but if they want to remove a statue of a Democrat racist it doesn't matter to me. It sill doesn't erase the fact that Lee was a Democrat racist. Yay them I guess. I can think of other things that are more important to the Democrats than trying to forget erase the past of the Democrat party but I can see why they would want to.

I think that Lee was a true Virginian as well as a national figure so I’m fine with honoring him. He transcends the secessionist south’s historical figures.

I would be surprised if 10% of the people that look at the statue today even know who it is. It’s just some guy on a horse.

Any statue of FDR should be removed due to his racist decision to round up Japanese Americans and put them in detention camps. Japanese American men who qualified for military service and volunteered to do so were not forced to go to the detention camps so most camps were made up of mostly old folks and young children.

33,000 Japanese Americans served during WW2.

An estimated 33,000 Japanese Americans served in the U.S. military during World War II, of which 20,000 joined the Army. Approximately 800 were killed in action. The 100th/442nd Infantry Regiment became the most decorated unit in U.S. military history.

It’s not. It’s just nonsense. People would just look at the name on the pedestal as they do with 99%of the statues they see.

Not the worst argument I've seen on here, and who knows, in another 50-75 years, you could be right.

The only argument that can be made is that we were at war with another country and monitoring foreign nationals is standard during wartime. But it's certainly not a great argument in my book.

Also, FDR easily did enough on the plus side to mitigate the camps. What else did the Confederate statue guys do?

I agree, the list is long as my...

Anyway let's not forget public works of art on display by artists whose values then (100-200+ years) dont reflect those of today.

Gosh I hope Michelangelo didnt do anything to piss off the progs.

Then you would be surprised... I cannot speak to visitors, but I suspect you do not grow up in Richmond not learning who Robert E. Lee (and Stonewall Jackson) were.

J.E.B. Stuart?? Probably not so much
