Obviously, imbecile is incorrect, since Virginia has a great recent history of D governors (skipping a few of the lesser names)

Chuck Robb 82-86 - US Senator for 12 years
Doug Wilder 90-94 - First black Governor in US
Mark Warner 02-06 - Current US Senator (12 years and currently favored for reelection this year)
Tim Kaine 06-10 - Current US Senator (8 years)
    Terry McAuliffe 14-18 - TBD
    Ralph Northan 18-22 - TBD

We'll see if Ralph Northam makes the "great" list. I suspect he won't be interested in going on to a Senate career...

This is the wrong time to remove that statue. Let this protest deal simmer down and not throw fire onto a pile of embers.

Well, from the OP, there has already been graffiti on the statue(s), or the base of the statue(s) anyway.

If anybody wants it preserved for future use, now might be the time to tuck it away. I certainly don't want to see any historical art ruined by looters or nut jobs...

    Just saying...

Speaking of historical art and historical significance does any other country on earth have statues of men who betrayed and fought against their own country?
Well maybe we can join with the Brits and move the one statue of Oliver Cromwell and Guy Fawlkes into a museum of traitors. Russia can add Lenin's tomb and Statlins statue. Oh yes Norway can add Qiusling.

Ok put those Confederate statues in some the same museum along with that of John Wilkes Booth and Benedict Arnold. And in 20 years add Trump's statue there.

Maybe next week we can begin work to demolish the Washington Monument.

I did not mean to imply that imbiciles can't get elecyed.

Of your list Robb was pretty good and Wilder was so-so. None of the others are worth the time of day IMHO.

Good catch. Another racist Democrat. He created the New Deal that created ghettos for blacks. They are the root of most of the problems for inner city blacks.

    Leave them alone.
As a native Virginian and blacksmith who lives just outside of Richmond, I used to live on Monument Ave. and I appreciate the creativity and hard work that goes into well made metalwork of all types.

I am, again, disgusted and embarrassed at "Blackface" Northam's additional ploy to appease the implacable BLM & Antifa by removing artistic statues of Confederate Generals that are of far greater quality than the "Affirmative Action Art" that is likely to replace them.

Rather than remove / destroy existing, historic art, supplement it with additional statues that appeal to Richmond's current residents.

The Confederacy and the States that made up the Confederacy were at war with a foriegn country which had invaded and brought mass destruction. The statues memorialize those sons and daughters who defended their homes, their families, their business and their States from that invasion. Fact. For that period of 5 years those states were NOT part of the United States they were another country and that period is part of their state history.

Yup, all they are trying to do is throw history down the memory hole.

They probably think Lee was a Republican and Lincoln was a Democrat.

The US was also fighting Germans and Italians but FDR didn't round up those Americans and put them in camps.

It is sad and somewhat ridiculous that some people think history is learned from commemorative statues and not books.

Germans and Italians didnt attack the US proper...

Also harder to identify and the numbers would have been staggering..

But solid point, even if we are getting farther from the topic...

The Confederacy rebelled against the United States in order to preserve the institution of slavery and then used violence to try to confiscate US property.

Not really. Relocating statues has nothing to do with "erasing history" or attempting to do so. People didn't forget who Stalin was just because his statue was toppled. There's nothing "special" about acknowledging that fact. There are, however, Confederate apologists who dedicate a lot of time and resources to misinformation campaigns to actually try to erase history.

And if they had won, you certainly would have all the Lee statues you like... and no Lincoln Memorial... and ongoing slavery...

Who was it who recently said history is written by the victors??
