We always hear about how "the Democrats started the KKK" and "the Democrats imposed Segregation".

And yet seems to be mostly Republicans pushing to defend the Confederate monuments, the Confederate flag.

Did I miss something? Why the paradox?

We are defending history and in spite of which side these men fought on, they were great men in their own rite. We don't look upon the Confederate battle flag as being racist, but rather the flag they fought under. The South is proud of their heritage.

Texas has Six Flags, meaning it includes all of the flags that have flown over their state. It does not mean they worship each of them. It is just part of their history.

are you also proud of Segregation? that's a MAJOR part of Southern history and heritage. lasted a good 70 years, MUCH longer than the Confederacy.

That's because we value even the leftists history.. The confederate flag is a symbol of Democrat pride and it should be allowed to fly high in honor of those valiant southerners that gave their lives for something they believed in!

God bless the south and the birthplace of the Dixiecrat and the Democrat party!

Not a southerner. I was born is Missouri.

There are lots of things we should not be proud of. That does not mean we have to throw away everything. The north had slaves and de facto segregation.

There was a east west line across the US. According to your logic, everyone north of that line was good and everyone south of the line was bad. People are not good or bad based on a somewhat artificial line. They are good or bad based on other factors.

Times were different and attitudes were different. Right or wrong, that is the way it is and that is the way it will always be. I have little doubt that sometime in the future, people will look back at us and wonder how we could have possibly believe and done the things we do. I suppose it is theoretically possible that they will conclude that vegetables have feelings and eating vegetables amounts to cannibalism. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe that, but you cannot absolutely say that it is not true. We change with the times, hopefully to the better.

You'll be thrilled to know that something called books exist. Sometimes People write down history in them. I think history is pretty safe from being erased.

Then get rid of all the statutes. Every statue that represents a person. And every one of them had imperfections.

The north in the US was one of the first places in the world to abolish slavery within it. Before France or Britain. The South was one of the last places to and it took a war.

    See the difference?

Well said! Even as contrary as the GOP is to the Southern Democrats we still honor their willingness to fight and die for what they believe in.. Sadly that southern tenacity has been replaced by the weak and willing to parrot propaganda and bullshit on promise by a group of leader who are essentially their new masters, ironic isn't it ;)

Some imperfections are bigger than others. But I do think we should get rid of statues. They are creepy. Too much like ancestor worship, and of glorifying the past.

I don't see Democrats supporting American History being taught period! The left wants it erased. Why don't you expain why Black Lives Matters destroyed a monument to the 52nd Massachusetts Regiment composed of black freed slaves who gave their lives in seeking their freedom? Wern't they taught any history?....or do they care? It's all about destroying history ....period. Are you going to be on the bandwagon to remove George Washington and Thomas Jefferson from American History? You know that is coming. They owned slaves in a different time and culture, but they formed a government that dissolved slavery.

Well Ronstar, you seem "progressive enough". Tell us now. Will you be a part of the movement to remove those two founders from history?

So what? They had slaves. There is no magic line in time which makes it OK back then and evil now. As a minimum you should erase any remnants of any thing that might remind anyone of the time before they abolished slavery. They need to change their state's name. Get rid of any flag that in anyway resembles the flags before they abolished slavery. Get rid of any statue of any person that lived before slavery was abolished.

But monuments and statues often inspire people, especially children, to read books.

Taking down a statue isn't like burning a book. A statue doesn't teach you anything. It just sits there being creepy.

If we took down them all and replaced them with little free libraries with history books in them.

They belong in a museum that's about slavery and racism. Some could go to the Jim Crow museum, but they have plenty already.

History is done by historians. Real history that is, not mythology. Mostly you find it in university libraries.

You are right. The American Civil War is not duplicated anywhere in history. A study of it's times and people reveal an awful lot about America and her people. We eventually denounced a wrong that had been embraced and rather than divide into two Nations, we reunited and embraced the good of both cultures. Some want that idea erased.

Lol. By often you mean not once in the history of the world.

I was a child once, surrounded by other children. You know what I never heard a single time.

"Gee golly, that statue was so cool, I'm going to go read a history book all about it."

    Lol.

If you are so concerned, replace the statues with little free libraries with history books in the.

Hey, Cap? How long does history last once print media ends and the electrical brownouts begin? It's also not safe at all if someone taps a key or two and such-and-such gets deleted altogether.

You dont know about the history of these statues. Most of them were put up, not during civil war times, but during the 1960s as a response to the civil rights and to intimidate blacks in the South. It's not a history worth celebrating.

The confederate flag was literally only used during the civil war. It doesn't have some deep history to it. It's. celebrating a rebellion to keep slaves of all things, at a time when most of the western world had abolished it. One of the most unjust rebellions in history.

Statues of men are also idol worship and anti christian.
