Lots of people coming through Ellis Island had their names changed many did so all hy themselves. The language you speak is YOUR language. I don't speak Celtic or Swedish. Mexicans speaking Spanish as a primary language here is a henderence to themselves. But feel free to learn any language you chose.

Why don't you worry more about being an American than an African?

It is fake news. The story cites three people. The left seems to have lost their interest in population statistics and ratios.

Why is my ancestral name, mother tongue and history important to me? Because a tree without roots will die. When a person doesn't have a knowledge of self, they are vulnerable to hateful people who try to tell them they are nothing. I want to know as much about my history as possible.

once again, you are in it for personal gain, and you really don't care about slavery. Interesting.

My wife has no clue about her roots, and yet, miraculously, her heart somehow continues to beat.

Why haven't White people accepted me as being more an American than an African?

Maybe because you and people like you keep throwing temper tantrums and want recognition above and beyond other Americans, instead of accepting that you are American, and the color of your skin doesn't mean a damned thing. You are the soul in your body, not the flesh that your soul inhabits.

My heart goes out to your wife. Her life would be much richer if she knew her roots.

Josh77, that sounds very poetic. Sadly, it's not true. The color of our skin is all important in the USA. Always has been, since the days of the Founding Fathers.

So choose to make it not important. It's not important to me in the least. I have friends of all races, and when we hang out, color never means a thing. Just let it go. It's the "us against them" mentality that is keeping the nation divided.

So knowing how distant ancestors, people she never knew, lived their lives, would somehow add "richness" to my wife's life?

    That's the oddest notion.

How? How would knowing the identities of complete strangers make the life my wife is currently living better and "richer"?

I know that my ancestors were dirty Irish bog trotters who barely escaped the Emerald Isle with their lives when the taters went blighty.

Ooo, I'm so enriched by the knowledge. Like a million bucks right in my pocket that.

Which part is not being understood? The question of whether or not one is capable of missing what they never had? Or the question of whether or not having such while being enslaved is the better of the two options?

And if it were to be learned on the part of yourself that certain ancestors were warlords who murdered thousands, or were involved in the slave trade as slave owners before eventually finding themselves as the property of others, what sort of changes would such discoveries bring about on the part of yourself? How would learning the negative attributes of your ancestral line serve to benefit yourself more, than having no knowledge of exactly what occurred in the distant past?

Notions of family ancestry having validity in the world of today is nothing more than emotional sentimentalism and utter nonsense. What was then is not now, and cannot shape or otherwise affect the here and now. What was the culture of your ancestors is not the culture of yourself, and attempting to legally change your name and learn a different language will not serve to bring yourself any closer to what was then.

Those who obsess over what could have been, are incapable of facing the future and what it may bring with it, be it good or bad. No one gets to have the life they feel they deserve. Accept it, deal with it, and move on. Stop lamenting how unfair life is, and take what is available to make your own life as best you can.

Are you nothing more than the descendant of some forgotten slave? Or are you a citizen of the united states who has far more opportunities now than at any point previously in history?

If I was black, I would be out the door and on that boat to the Promised Land so fast, the screen door wouldn't even have time to slam shut before I asleep in my bunk.

White women have little trouble with race mixing since it is sex for a cause. Black women have no trouble at all, as they have never needed an excuse.

Headlines read: One black person wants to move to Africa.

What White Nationalists hear: All black people secretly want to move to back to Africa.

    Crazy town.

What the intention of the story is: All of America is racist.

You're a smart guy, how did the author find this person?

It would be better off for all if those who hated America left America, and that would apply to people of any skin color.

I don't blame them. Black Folks may be as unsafe in the Democrat cities as they were on the Democrat Plantations. They should all probably find a safer place to live. They don't necessarily have to leave the country, maybe just get out of their Democrat Hell Holes.

DE BLASIO’S NEW YORK CONTINUES TO SERVE AS AN OBJECT LESSON IN WHERE DEMOCRAT PARTY POLICIES LEAD: 18 shot in 24 hours as spike in gun violence in NYC continues.

Man and woman shot in Brooklyn as gunfire continues citywide.
