We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and “villages” that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents, and children are comfortable.https://blacklivesmatter.com/what-we-believe/

Do you agree with this and what does it have to do with equality?

I'm glad that you admitted that you've never been there and don't actually know. In my experience in Ghana, if you have money you can live well. You can have a personal driver, housekeeper, etc. If you don't have money you'll have a difficult time. That's like anywhere else. Although electricity and water utilities were available in Accra, Cape Coast, Ada and everywhere else that I spent time they did go out more frequently than they do here. So people had backup plans, reserves of water, etc. where I was staying. There are excellent restaurants, hotels and night clubs. The food is much fresher than the grocery store it's old by the time that it gets to the shelf stuff that you buy here and it doesn't have all of the additives. I had some really great food. You can have a good time. The main point though is criticizing your country doesn't mean that you have to leave. We can choose to stay here and make it better. It's kind of obnoxious for someone to say leave the U.S. or be quiet. Sorry, that's not how it works, per the 1st Amendment. I have ties to Ghana and the UK through my spouse, so I will continue to visit both places. As we age will we spend more time in Ghana? Who knows?

That idea didn't end up working out so well.
Despite starting off with the best intentions, and the US giving hundreds of millions in foreign aid, Liberia reverted back to cannibalism and female genital mutilation.

No, their explanation is perfectly clear.

Black education scholar calls out white wokeness: symbolic gestures ‘do real harm’
    JUNE 30, 2020
    [IMG]
Is the answer to black oppression … woke white people?

Not even close, argues Charles Love, assistant executive director of Seeking Educational Excellence, a nonprofit that describes itself as “committed to ending identity politics and the social justice agenda in schools.”

Love (pictured), in an op-ed in the New York Post, spells out the problem as he sees it:

This month’s protests started out as a black movement against police brutality, but they have a different look now. In many cases, whites have taken over. They apologize for their “white privilege” and, in at least one case, wash black people’s feet to expiate their collective sins. …

[IMG]That’s when I realized that white wokeness is the new factor in our national life. It has been embedded into the consciousness of whites that all blacks are the same and that they all face impossible barriers to improvement — from standardized tests to the black men being arrested on the nightly news. A growing number of whites believe that black life is unrelentingly grim.

Most whites don’t have many black friends to give them firsthand accounts of what their experiences are with racism. While most blacks do experience some discrimination or racial prejudice, it is rarely violent, and it doesn’t hold them back in a significant sense. The media give a distorted view of black life. …

Blacks do lag whites in many socioeconomic indicators — but most blacks don’t live in poverty, don’t have constant run-ins with law enforcement and aren’t uneducated. …

Most woke whites have good intentions, but their symbolic gestures will, at best, have little effect and, at worst, do real harm. The campaign against police is a good example. Broad anti-police sentiment has already caused cops to become less proactive in high-crime neighborhoods, with the predictable result that shootings have spiked around the country.

Whites are engaging in activism motivated by a misperception about black life that doesn’t comport with reality for most blacks. With their views of blacks as wounded and perpetually oppressed, woke whites would do more good by doing nothing.

Economically Ghana has really taken off. I am sure Chinese investment is influencing that tremendously.
    upload_2020-7-8_21-55-51.png

But with all those human rights abuses and government corruption, it has a long way to go. I am really not down with hacking off the genitalia of women.
    upload_2020-7-8_21-59-0.png
You mention the obnoxiousness of people telling you to leave or be quiet. What do you think of 1st/2nd generation Somalia immigrants dissing our culture and our heritage and demanding that we tear it all down? Our government bureaucrats let them come here as an act of charity (against the will of the American citizenry), saving them from barbarism and this is the gratitude we get? It did not escape our notice that many of those Somalia immigrants participated in burning Minneapolis down.

What would you think if Chinese immigrants helped burned down one of your cities in Ghana (Ghana is getting more Chinese every day)? Would those Chinese folks survive the retribution visited upon them by the people of Ghana?

I work with a 1st generation immigrant from the Ukraine (hardware engineer). He expresses nothing but gratitude for being allowed entry into America. He thinks America is heaven. That is the attitude I expect of all immigrants. Any thing less than that is not acceptable, not acceptable at all. We have enough Americans eager to burn America down, the last thing we need is to import ingrates who want to help them in that effort.

It's terribly confusing. If blacks are rushing out of America why are millions of aliens moving heaven and earth to get into America?????

It does rather bring back the highly offensive, but perhaps somewhat accurate old saying that... "You can take the boy out of the jungle, but you can't take the 'jungle' out of the boy...." :cynic:

There was nothing there for thousands of years but primitive, warring negro tribes until explorers and adventurers arrived from the Middle East and Europe.

That indigenous population never rose above the general level of 'Stone Age' civilization until more advanced, modern people arrived. 'Bush meat' for dinner, along with 'slash-and-burn' agriculture, mud and thatched-grass huts, no sense of sanitation, and slavery practiced on a scale never dreamed of by any other race....

Today, these descendants of those 'Stone Age' people want what the other cultures built with technologies, machinery, and knowledge that certainly was not (NOT) in existence among the indigenous tribes... in fact, none of them even had a WRITTEN LANGUAGE before others gave it to them. But, because they have the sheer numbers, they simply STEAL it from those who created it from NOTHING, lifting that whole Sub-Saharan African part of the world out of prehistoric levels of existence. And that, obviously, is just fine with you.... Got it!

Actions speak louder than words. When I see BLM doing this, I don't need to hear what they have to say about anything. I just need to live as far away from them as possible.

I don't hold it against any society if they want to be "hunter-gatherers". What burns my ass is when any group of people STEAL what other people invented, built, and used to greatly improve and modernize a whole country, and half of the African continent.

If the 'natives' had wanted to simply go on living in a manner little different from that of beasts, who would care? But, NO... they wanted in on what the Europeans and Middle-Easterners were developing -- and today, they've gone the extra step of just STEALING it and murdering or running-off the people who created the prosperity, wealth, and much higher standard of living in that whole part of the world.

[IMG]. "Thanks for lifting us up from the Stone Age -- now, GET OUT!"
