They actually started a war because the Constitution was being openly undermined, plus there were large philosophical divisions on the scope of the government, including the expanding Treasury, which was a thorn that sprung up with the Hamiltonian idea of debt assumption.

 

Democrats have always wanted people of color to serve them. That was the reason blacks wanted Aunt Jemima gone, despite the fact that she became quite wealthy. Used to be blacks, today they want Mexicans to flood the border to be their landscapers, cooks, and maids.

Opposing the tearing down of historical monuments in this country is like ISIS tearing down Christian history in the ME or Xi tearing down religious culture in Asia. Like terrorists of all varieties, Democrats want to tear down every bit of US history, particularly those that bring to light the fact that they lost the civil war, Republicans took away their black slaves and Trump is building a wall to prevent them from enslaving Latinos.

I read many of the secession documents of each state.
Slavery was in the top 5 of all the traitor states. They were also all in the south.

In the 1850's we called 'em Democrats.
In the 1860's we called 'em Confederates and treasonous bastards.

It's about the real version of history. Just because they left destroys all the monuments that they put up to their past heroes doesn't mean their place in history doesn't exist.
