Every country in the world where mask-wearing is not common made the same error. Our medical experts lied to us for weeks, telling us that masks don't help and specifically suggested "Don't wear masks". Then, they revealed that was a flat-out lie and they simply didn't want the public stockpiling N95 and medical masks because there weren't enough for the medical caregivers. They treated us like children. They could have said wear a "cloth face covering" and recommended that retailers of N95's and medical masks pull their stock off the shelves from the public and only sell them to the medical community. We probably wouldn't have had to shut down if they'd done that from the start. Once they intentionally lied one time, and it was a big lie, a lot of people don't trust anything they say today.

There are many more countries in the world and CVD deaths far outnumber cancer deaths as do HIV and communicable disease deaths and fatal vehicle accidents worldwide. Malaria is about equal but also not being addressed with the urgency of c-19. Starvation which is already at about 6 million this year is said to be in danger of reaching 250 million due to lockdowns which prevent people from working. If you believe the WHO.

 

I wear an n 95 mask. Maybe it protects me and the people around me a tiny bit but the real reason for the masks are that the governments want the economy open for reasons of tax collection and the masks give them political cover (no pun intended)

Several years ago, I bought one package of three N95s, thinking I might not have bad allergy attacks every time I mow my lawn. I only used one because I literally felt like I was inhaling only my own CO2 and couldn't get enough oxygen. I felt lightheaded and dizzy after only a few minutes.

Anyway, I found the other two in the garage when Covid started. Even without physical exercise and out in the sun, I still felt like I couldn't breathe by the end of 20 minutes shopping for groceries in an air-conditioned store. (They are not the kind with the air valve though.)

I’m sorry but it wasn’t that long ago that people were talking about human extinction through climate change. Maybe in less than a generation!

Before that it was nuclear winter and the whales and the destruction of the Ozone layer by hair spray. Always another waiting catastrophe. How can this possibly be psychologically healthy?

This endless parade of worry is probably the most psychologically destructive media driven thing I have seen in my life.

Now my children are asking me if they are going to die!!!! How can I possibly explain proportions to very young children if even adults don’t want to do the work of understanding them??

At some point bravery has to emerge and faith in the human race and it’s incredible inner machinery to deal with outside events has to win the day.

Everything you mentioned has been around for a long time. Covid showed up in Dec. The final global death toll from it will be catastrophically high. The death toll in America is already catastrophically high, since the vast majority of the deaths were preventable. Countries like S. Korea and Japan never had the problems we are still dealing with. If we had done what they did, we would have lost much much fewer people.

You mean if western culture has a several hundred year history of having people wear masks when they have any cold of flu symptoms? This country isn't even 250 years old yet. A lot of Asian countries did better because they were regular mask wearers before Covid.

There is likely to never be a "final" Covid death toll, just like there will never be a "final" Influenza death toll. Covid is "new", but it's looking like the flu or the common cold which is going to come back every single year for the forseeable future. It will probably get "controlled" with an annual vaccine, but never wiped out.

That is true. If we'd had we had a President who early on pushed for mask wearing, that would have helped. The first time Trump let anyone see him with a mask on was, I believe, last week.

He also stated Wuhan virus was "nothing to worry about" if it comes to the U.S. Fortunately Trump went against the "experts" trusted judgement and ordered travel restrictions. Pelosi and DeBlasio criticized Trump's decision and encouraged people to "visit China Town" and mingle.
Trump also got Hydroxychloroquine from India after we ran out.

 

Japan never locked down. So maybe we shouldn’t have either.
