The reason the USA is being hit so hard with the coronavirus is that overall the population of the USA is by far the unhealthiest in the world, and the people in general are very soft and weak.

Doctors cannot make you healthy, they can only keep you alive at a lower level of function than being healthy. Health, unless you are born with congenital disease, is up to the individual.

The mark of coronavirus death is upon these people who are extreme examples of low health, of which there so very, very many.

Obesity (and other issues) are not being discussed as an underlying factor at all that i'm aware of. I believe its due to the fat shaming thing.

Ironically with ALL the chatter on the news every single day, they aren't really discussing underlying factors at all. At least I'm not seeing it, although admittedly lately i've been zipping through it quite a bit lately on fast forward because I'm tired of the repetitive nature of the news coverage on the subject. I record GMA every morning and watch it before work, but lately i've been flying through the 2 hours in about 15 minutes.

60% of restaurants went out of business their first year, and 80% within 5 years before Covid.

Singer payer only makes this issue worse. Covid mostly affects those with medical conditions and record use of pharm products since Obamacare shows that Americans are sicker than ever.

UBI is not sustainable. By the time a dollar finds its way through out circuitous government, there is little left.

Everything you propose only makes things worse.

That's a sad state of things. We shouldn't be afraid to tell truths because it may hurt someone's feelings. I don't care what the topic is.

Fat shaming is a sad thing. It's hurtful to call someone fatty as much as it's harmful to shame someone for being anorexic. You never know what sort of mental & physical issues someone is dealing with.

That said, being obese is a factor, and that is a worthy discussion to have. We should be having that conversation and what can be done about it. It's very simple to say, "put the cheeseburger down," but, there are a lot of mental health issues, and access to psychiatrists is much more difficult than a doctor. We had to find one for our son and it took me months to find one. Plus, the deductible for psychiatry is often different from the medical doctor deductible. Our deductible for psychiatry at one point was $14,000. It's a real issue.

I wonder what percentage of people have no eating disorder/mental issue, literally love being fat, have access to better choices, and simply opt out of them due to laziness and gluttony. I don't know.

The actual % would be pretty impossible to determine, some people are chock full of excuses, including using mental issues as a crutch.

    I have no idea honestly

I have some experience with this, personally. I am bi-polar, and I am overweight, and always have been. I have been obese in the past, but never for very long. The thing is, I sleep talk, sleep walk, sleep drink & sleep eat. My dad was also bi-polar. He could go through an entire loaf of bread and package of lunch meat while everyone, including him, was sleeping. The happened a lot. It looks a lot like chain smoking.

That has happened to me, many times. I once went through an entire 12-pack of beer without any knowledge that I was even awake. Same disgusting incidents with food, too. It's a horrifying feeling to wake up and realize what happened.

So, if I'm in a manic state, I may sleep walk and get food, and find out about it in the morning.
If I'm in a down state, I can eat without thinking about it - because it's a dopamine reward that my brain needs.

It's a struggle. I'm not lazy, nor do I make bad food choices very frequently. I usually eat the right number of calories in a day. My stupid brain.

I'm retired ( wedding photography, jazz musician ) and I've been working part time delivering food. Many high end restaurants can't survive on take out, and their catering biz has crashed and they'll have to make do with stimulus money. Most of the fast food joints, sushi and asian restaurants that have a large take out biz are getting by. McDonalds, KFC, J in B, etc,are all doing fine.

That surprises me. We occasionally enjoy a Big Mac or Whopper for nostalgic reasons, but our takeout is mostly local. We've been doing a lot more takeout since March. The only reason is because we should; not because we need to. We largely prefer our locally owned places. The chains, like I said, are mostly childhood nostalgia, and very infrequent.

    Who is to blame
    China
    Trump
    Democrats for closing businesses
Biden (why not, Trump gets blamed when it is cloudy outside)

If you are a democrat it is always Trump. If you are a Republican you may take some time to analyze and blame China and over panicy dems.

Well, this certainly was supposed to be justified in the name of, “public safety,” wasn’t it? Those advocating for the lockdown will have a lot of Americans to answer to. Why they chose to drain their savings, close their businesses, lose their homes, file for bankruptcy, become homeless, send the country into a depression.

To flatten the curve? Won’t work.
To keep hospitals from being overwhelmed? That won’t fly either.
Because people “might” be infected? Try again.

Fauci is, in part, responsible for this devastation. Those trying to reopen and fight back against the mandates are trying to help America, not hurt it. Maybe it will teach Fauci a lesson if he has to cut a nice check for every single American displaced by his actions. As well as every governor that has been onboard with him.

Yes, the complete silence on predisposing LIFESTYLE factors is ****ing unconscionable. Deliberate sabotage, it seems. Must be, because who in their right mind is more concerned with not hurting feelings, than giving people the information they need to save themselves?

Not as good of a job as you are doing of DENIAL. What @JakeJ said is right on the money and is the EXACT model of DEMOCRAT leadership. Keep living in that dream world though, seems like a magical place.
