You moderate Repubs should join the Democratic Party, here's why.

I don't understand this repeated statement we see everywhere, now. Look, arguably the most moderate candidate of them all in the Dem primaries just thoroughly beat the far-leftist Bernie Sanders, by a HUGE margin of more than 9 million popular votes, (when Hillary only beat Sanders by 3.7 million popular votes), I mean, that was a rout, a demolition, a spanking... and suddenly we see this discourse everywhere that it's the radical leftists who took over?

Sure, sure, Biden's platform has veered left... which is what ALL politicians do when they want to seduce a chunk of the party's base in anticipation of the general election. Biden knows that he can't win if 30% of the Dems, the Sanders voters, don't stay with the flock. So he makes concessions. Whether or not he will follow through, if elected, is anybody's guess. It wouldn't be the first nor the last time a politician makes empty promises during a campaign and is just posturing for votes (ahem, I thought that by now Trump would have forced the Mexican president to pay for his beautiful wall, no?)

But regardless of platform (which rarely materialize after someone is elected), Biden CRUSHED the radical leftist, and the moderates prevailed 70% v. 30%, so I fail to see all this domination by the left wing of the Democratic Party that you guys are seeing.

The Squad... is made of FOUR representatives. Yes, they are strident and visible... but they are hardly the majority in the Democratic Caucus, and I think Pelosi must hate them.

What I do see is that it is interesting for the Republican Party and for Trump to depict Biden as the lackey of the radical left, as the puppet of The Squad and Bernie, and BLM and Antifa. After all, that's Trump's only chance. He needs to scare the voters into thinking that Biden will defund the police and will in his senility allow the crazy Left to call the shots in favor of anarchy. After all, Biden is supposed to be dumb, right?

I mean, I'm not so sure that he is that dumb... Maybe not the most brilliant politician (neither is Trump) but for a dumb guy, seems like he managed to win a Senate seat several times, the vice-presidency twice, and made millions of dollars too. Are you guys that sure that he is that dumb? And is he that senile? He had some very sharp performances in some of the Dem primary debates, which I watched. Not always, but in some debates he did bring his A game. So, don't count his brain out that easily. The idea that he is demented is also a partisan talking point. Probably with some ground in reality, but not as bad as depicted.

Some people here said "the DNC is putting Biden there so that the Radical Left can call the shots..." Uh, what? The DNC did ALL THEY COULD to sabotage the Radical Left, both in 2016 and in 2020. They articulated Biden's take-over on Super Tuesday PRECISELY to stop the Radical Left. All that the DNC wanted was to screw Bernie Sanders, the iconic chief of the Radical Left... and now suddenly they want the opposite?

No, this speech makes no sense and is a partisan talking point to depict Biden's ticket in a bad light, so that Trump has a chance in November, given that Trump seems to be badly behind.

    -------------

This said, I'm not a big fan of Biden. Not a big fan of Trump, either. I may be one of the last people in this whole country, still undecided. I don't know yet if I'll vote for Trump-Pence or for Biden-Ma'amVeep. First of all, I need to see who Ma'amVeep is before I make up my mind, because she may become POTUS soon if the ticket wins, given that Biden is 77. You know, despite all his basement seclusion, at his age it's sufficient for Biden to catch the virus after Inauguration Day (with this virus no precaution is 100% guaranteed), and his Veep will be the POTUS. So I feel that I can't make up my mind until I know who she is, and until I look carefully at her positions and political history. Also, I want to see what the Trump Administration makes of this virus situation. If the Warp Speed initiative delivers big and we conquer the virus with a vaccine, I'll be more inclined to vote for Trump, simply because I believe his administration would do a better job bringing the economy back to speed. Anyway, what I'm saying is that I'm not saying the above due to any anti-Trump stance. I'm still on the fence on this. But I have eyes and years. I think that all this THE DEMS ARE DOMINATED BY THE RADICAL LEFT is a bit exaggerated (and politically expedient), after their moderate candidate trounced the radical leftist by more than 9 million votes.

I'm a moderate independent. I could go either way. But if I go with Trump, it won't be for fear that the Dem ticket is representative of the Radical Left. I mean, again, he does have someone much more to the left in contention for veep, Elizabeth Warren, and it is not looking like he'll pick her. So, where is all that Radical Left dominance you are all seeing??? I don't see it. And no, platforms are not all. They are little more than campaign promises and we know that these see the light of day in a very small proportion.

They are advocating the socialism they are advocating which they hope will lead to such classic socialism. The moderates among them should reject it out right and join the moderate Republicans, the RINO's and perhaps once again with Republican leadership they can help get the country back up and running.

Why should moderate republicans abandon their policies and beliefs they to join the democrat party? A party that has gone so far left it would scare the crap out of Stalin.

In most respects, the base of the Democratic party is essentially old-school Republicans. The far left is, well nuts. And the Republican party under Trump is a looney-toon conspiracy theory loving, anti-science nut show.

Translation. Please join us in our Socialist takeover and prompt destruction of the country, turning us into North Mexico. Look at how quickly Leftists have turned parts of our cities into Central American **** holes with boarded up downtowns, graffiti everywhere, fires burning and neutered cops. THATS MEXICO folks!!! That’s the Democrat party folks.

Join us in the new American dream where it’s all a nightmare. But at least we’re mostly equal. Equally fracked.

Yes, you are wrong. And your logic flawed.

You don't understand the difference between "conservatives", who cherish order, tradition, continuity, the permanent and fundamental things in life, and "Republicans", members of a political party dedicated to obtaining and using political power. Some Republicans of course, and even some Democrats, are conservative. But you confuse yourself and slander good people by conflating the terms.

President Trump is sui generis, not conservative or liberal.

If that was so, you would have kept your blue dogs instead of running them off. It takes two to tango. You say you want your moderates back, but the actions speak louder than words.

I actually hate the word moderate or even independents. I prefer swing voters. As swing voters we gave the entire congress to the Republicans in 1994, then in 2006 we reversed ourselves and gave both chambers back to the Democrats. Obama and company ignored us, went against us and the majority of Americans, that made us angry, so we reverted to voting Republican by giving them 63 formally held Democratic seats in the House. Once we reelected Obama in 2012, he once again concentrated on just the Democratic base, the progressives, so we gave the senate back to the Republicans in 2014. Still fairly peeved, it was us swing voters that made Trump president.

But Trump made us angry by his childish antics, so we went back to voting Democratic to the tune of a 40 seat pickup in the house. So swing voters don't have a caucus and we don't want our independents to caucus with either major party. We really, really dislike both and would like nothing better to see both end up on the trash heap of history. There are no true or real independents in congress, just a couple who call themselves independents, but in reality are full fledged Democrats.

I suppose you could say at one time I was a big tent democrat until the Democrats decided we didn't belong. Then I became a Reagan Republican until Perot came along, I gave up on both parties. I'm looking for a party that has an American agenda, not just a Republican one, not just a Democratic one, but an American agenda. With the polarization and ultra high partisanship of today, there's no place for independent minded individual in either party.

True, we don't have a caucus, we don't even have a political party to call home. But what we have is the power to determine who wins and loses. Neither party's base is large enough to do that, not without us. So if you want us, it's your move. Keep moving left, lose more and more people. That makes your ideologues happy, the less folks in your party, the more power the ideologues have, the hard core.

They haven't ran anywhere, there are 25 members currently of the Blue Dog Coalition
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_members_of_the_Blue_Dog_Coalition

If you are referring to Dixiecrats, good riddance, they ran because of Civil Rights legislation. Lincoln Repubs backed it. So, I'm asking them to join dems because Trumpism rejects them and they could embolden the Blue Dog coalition, thus moving the compromise point closer to the center.

Yes, there is no power without a caucus, and to date, there are only two parties with a caucus (of any impactful size) in all the legislatures across the land , repubs and dems.

I think you can ask all you want. I highly doubt any of those independents who left the Democrats or Republicans for that matter want to return. There has to be a reason to return, neither party by continuing to drift further and further left and right provide none. Only a reason to leave, a reason for the hard left and hard right to celebrate.

As for Trump, we'll kick him out and give the Democrats the senate to boot. We really never like him to begin with. In fact 57% of all independents disliked Trump/viewed him negatively. The problem was the Democrats went with a candidate viewed even worse, 70% of independents had an unfavorable/negative view of her. Question 10 and 11.

    https://d25d2506sfb94s.cloudfront.net/cumulus_uploads/document/l37rosbwjp/econTabReport_lv.pdf

If that's the best the two parties can come up with, we don't need them. Actually 12% of independents followed through with their dislike of both candidates by casting a ballot for a third party candidate, some 9 million voters.

But I guarantee that in 2022 we, the independent, swing voter will return the House to GOP control because as normal, the Democrats will over reach making indies angry at them. This usually happens when one party has the presidency, the House and the senate. 2010 and 2018 are good examples. As is 1994.

I'm sure the democrats will take this election as a mandate for their policies. That will be wrong, this election is nothing more than getting rid of Trump and company. Not that we actually want the Democrats in power, we don't. But right now they're the lesser of two evils, the least worst choice, the choice we want to lose the least, not win, but lose the least. So buckle your belt, get ready for the Republicans to return to controlling the House in 2022.

Actually, I think a return to normalcy would be just great. A return to saner times. If Biden and the Democrats are willing to take it slow, not start with an avalanche of far left legislation think they have a mandate for that, then perhaps I'll be wrong about 2022. I doubt it. As a Biden supporter, so far, I seen a trend of Old Joe moving left over the last couple to three weeks. Now I'm beginning to worry about that. I liked the more moderate Biden when he was a senator and as VP. When he adds Warren as an advisor, that sends chills up my spine. Be careful here. I suggest you all adhere to the old political adage for a Democrat, campaign left during the primaries, then move toward the center for the general election. Biden is doing the opposite, he campaigned as a moderate during the primaries and is now starting to move left for the general. Be careful, that could turn off some independents. Hillary made that mistake in 2016. She didn't move toward the center for the general, she stayed left, move even further left trying to placate Sanders supporters.

in the end independents voted for Trump 46-42 over Hillary with 12% voting third party against both. I was one of those who voted against both candidates. I wasn't about to help either one attain the office of the president. I wanted both to lose. Biden, I like. Let's put it this way, I like the old Joe Biden, not the one starting to drift left. Three weeks ago, on 21 Jun, Biden had a 9.8 point lead. Then he started to move left, his lead today is down to 7.4. Is there a connection? I wonder.

    https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2020/president/us/general_election_trump_vs_biden-6247.html

I do think whoever Biden chooses as his VP is mighty important. It will send a message, at least to me. Will Biden remain the moderate or will he fast become a progressive once he wins?

By electing Trump. In fact, I've heard the 'Faustian bargain' metaphor a number of times, in the media, regarding conservatives electing Trump.

What's left of 'moderate' R's and 'moderate' D's should form a 3rd party. Said party would probably never get that many seats BUT surely enough to play the spoiler and keep the other two parties in check.

1: I don't care what others think of Trump. No matter what public profile they have. God himself could come down and endorse Democrats and I would still make MY own decision. You can be a blind follower if you wish. I refuse to be.

2: I find it ironic that you find that you "need" a "conservative wing, like we used to have" while also acknowledging that what you call the "conservative wing" that you want back was against civil rights. IE: You just acknowledged that your side doesn't really care about racists, they'll lie in bed with anyone as long as it will keep them in power. Its all about the power.

    Disgraceful.
