Trump once again thinking of more ways to profit being president. Remember he never divested from his businesses.
I know the site I'll link is VERY partisan but it still is telling the truth about the hotel rate hikes.

    https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump...based-republican-national-convention?ref=wrap

As President Donald Trump hints that he plans to deliver his nomination speech from the White House on Aug. 27, the hotel bearing his name down the street is making a power play of its own: spiking its room rates by more than 60 percent for those convention dates.

Listings for rooms at the Trump International Hotel in D.C., via Hotels.com, show rooms for one adult on the night of the address starting at $795 and running as high as $2,070.

That price tag represents a massive increase from the $495 starting rate currently offered for the dates one week following and one week prior. For three days before Trump’s scheduled speech—which were originally scheduled to be the dates of the GOP convention in Charlotte, North Carolina—the hotel is charging $695 a night for its cheapest room. The hotel will begin charging $795 that Thursday, and continue through the weekend, before dropping back to $495 on Monday.

The price hikes come as other luxury hotels in D.C. are cutting their rates: accommodations at the Mandarin Oriental on August 27 begin at $367, while a comparable room at the Fairmont Washington will run $263

So who believes this is right

Nobody is forcing anybody to stay at the Trump tower in order to hear the speech. They can choose to for convenience.

OMG, this must have been Trump's plan all along so he can be 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 % richer.

You are correct but there are laws about profiting. If you look at any of his hotels they always Jack up prices before he even announces he is going. Couple that with how he overcharges the ss for golf carts. They could've by now bought fleets of new ones for how much they have spent on them. His campaign gets charged exuberant amounts for renting the ballroom st his places. Also let's not forget he tried very hard to have the g7 at his hotel that just s few years ago had bedbugs saying there was no better place. He thought that would go over well it obviously didnt do he changed the location but the point still stands he is profiting off of his presidency.

Do you know how most get rich? They are penny pinchers 1$ means a profit not toilet paper. If he has all this money just flowing then why does he constantly thru his life stuff contractors telling them to take him to court.
Why has he also stiffed plenty of cities he owes for security when he goes campaigning there.
Ya every penny counts to ppl like him.

The Clintons left the White house nearly broke- but before long were worth $100 M. Bill, with the help of Hillary being Secretary of State, was selling "speeches". One company who had long needed state department approval and had been unsuccessful- and who had never hired a convention speaker before- paid Bill $750K for 40 minutes of speech, and by strange coincidence got the approval they had been trying to get for years....

Funny how things like that happen.

If people which to pay $50, or $5000, for a hotel room- it's their choice. Now if the President requires they do that for a favor, OR if he puts them up and bills the US Treasury for it- different rules apply.
Except of course to the Biden family affairs.
That however is not the case, is it?

The thing is that is after leaving office about the Clinton's. Speeches and books after presidents leave usually do make them rich when they leave. Which may or not be right but that is not what the subject us. Its during their time in office.

He's not profitting from it. If he wasn't President he would be able to do events like this many times over. But since he has to deal with being President he's not able to deal with important things.

Let's say he wasn't the POTUS. He was just a business man going on a speaking tour. Would it be okay for him to up the prices at his nearby hotels for those speaking dates? If so, how is this different?

So he would be able to charge ss 4x or more for the hotel stay then astronomical rental fees on gof carts?
He could have events being charged 3x the amount?? Nobody would pay that much for a ballroom. What he is doing to his campaign money is funneling it to his pockets which should be a violation.

Access to the most important person in the United states rather than access to a failed businessman.. hmm wonder which could charge more.

That's not relevant. My question stands as written.

    If a businessman or businesswoman...

    Was a billionaire
    Owned a bunch of hotels
    Had written several books
    Sought after speaker

Would it be okay to raise the prices of their hotels (or rental cars or any other product or service) around touring dates?

If so, why is it not okay for the POTUS?

Again, the amount of money commanded isn't relevant to the question.

It is VERY relevant because ppl would pay much more for a president thinking they might be able to sway policies to benifit themselves. Plus trump is not really a successful businessman looking back at his career. He inherited a lot of his wealth has 7 bankruptcies. Now if you said a snake oil salesman on how to take advantage of ppl that would more fit trump.

Didnt pay attention to the bottom part. The amount of money is important plus dont forget MORE ppl would be willing to pay for access to a president

I am clearly not explaining this well. Remove ANYTHING that has something to do with the POTUS position. Would it be okay for a businessman or businesswoman to raise the price of their product or service to coincide with speaking engagements? If so, why is it wrong for the POTUS to do so?

Someone paying to hear the President speak isn't likely to get an audience with him.

Anyone that could get an audience with him would not need to do so at a speaking engagement.

He is more of a con artist. How do you bankrupt a casino where the odds are In your favor?
He has had hundreds of lawsuits over unpaid Bills.

Now this is a guess so I am not saying this as fact but I would be willing to bet he gets ppl to invest into something like the casino he then builds or makes renovations posts it as expenses then funnels money to one of his other companies before filing bankruptcy. This is why bankruptcy laws should be changed to include the individual and all things he or she owns.

He's a businessman whether you like his style of running businesses (or running them into the ground) or not.

That may or may not be true.

What does any of that have to do with your OP asking if it's right for him to raise the prices at his hotel to coincide with speaking dates?

No one should personally benefit from public service. Oh how I wish we had term limits -- one term and back to punching a time clock. No pension and no medical for life.
