The way it looks to me is it's going to happen so it's better to happen in the public eye. For instance, let's say that Politician A is friends with POTUS. A owns some hotels near locations where POTUS is going to speak so s/he decides to raise the prices. Politician B owns some rental car places near the location. Politician C owns some restaurants in the area. And, on and on. All of them give some kickbacks for the heads up to raise their prices for those speaking engagement dates.

I do not believe that anyone should be a career politician period. I also am not fond of the pension and medical plans either. I think one reason they don't empathize with the average person is they don't face the same problems on a day-to-day basis. This pandemic is very telling with that. They are getting paid so they have lost all sense of reality that most people cannot afford to sit at home indefinitely waiting for the economy to open back up. Millions of people are going to lose their homes, whatever savings they've been able to build and their way of life. The impact of this will be passed down to our descendants for decades to come.

Seriously? You think someone would book a hotel to go to a speech by the POTUS and have enough cash to bribe the security detail to let him/her have a few minutes of the President's time? If true, every crackpot that hated the POTUS would be in line.

How would someone get around security and why would the POTUS give them the time of day?

People that use bribes don't usually do it in public. That's the whole point - do not have any public association with the one you are attempting to bribe or are bribing.

A lot of these events are usually donors so of course they could buy access.

OK. If you say so. I still don't know what it has to do with your OP.

No kidding you went there lol. I am just pointing out that trump is profiting in plenty of ways while being president and if you feel this is right.

I've replied in this thread many times. I do not see the difference in him profiting from his businesses as a businessman or as POTUS. That's how capitalism works.

Do I think it's right? It's supply and demand.
Do I think it's ethical? Absolutely not.

If you want absolute agreement, then write your OP in such a way so readers know that you aren't open for actual discussion.

Two points. IF the profit is from the government or use of government influence during office (Biden/Hunter style) should be illegal. We know that there is a substantial amount of that; common in congress.
IF there is a connection between post-presidency income and your wife's political office cooperation with those paying- that too should be illegal. No hard evidence there; just a great many "coincidences"
that make it hard to think otherwise.

I agree either side. The law is the law. And both sides in Congress get filthy rich from insider trading and kickbacks.

Sorry kept erasing it and then when I finished it came out as that blame the alcohol lol

I was referring to the story about hunter Biden getting 1.5 billion from some chinesse bank supposedly there is zero evidence of it. But did you complain about that because if the story were true that would he no different.

Yes, that's easy to do sometimes.

I haven't complained about Hunter Biden or Donald Trump. As a general rule, I don't trust politicians. What does that have to do with your OP, though?

Logically it must be okay since Barack Obama was a very low level millionaire when he entered the Oval Office but instantly became a MINIMUM of a multiple mansion owning 40 million dollars pocketing multi millionaire after leaving office . . . and our leftists cheered. How many deals as president did he cut in order to become so wealthy the second he left office?

Biden and his son's net worth added together is a pittance compared to the Kentucky boy Rich Mitch who was penniless when first elected.

I am not an all-or-nothing type of person. I don't hate all things Trump. Nor do I hate all things Biden. I'm concerned about the policies that will impact my life and the lives of my children and other descendants.

I also do not subscribe to the idea of bashing one side to deflect from the wrongdoings and missteps of another. It's dirty and counterproductive, in my opinion.

His tax returns showed him a multi millionaire before leaving office. He hasn't released returns since.

Admittedly, there are a number of matters he should be impeached for. But, as we know, the mountain of damning evidence in the last impeachment was ignored by Repub senators so impeachment is a dead end.
