    I’m genuinely confused. Are Jamaicans considered African Americans? I thought they are Latinos!

    Jamaica is actually located in the Carribean. So, if she wanted to hyphenate herself accurately, it would Jamaican-American. That's why Joe Biden did not classify her as an African-American (or Blafrican-American, as he so elegantly put it).

    Well, then why doesn’t she call herself a Latino or a Jamaican?
    Everywhere on mass media they call her African American. Isn’t that insulting to Latinos, Jamaican, and Indians that she literally scratched off her own heritage to pretend to be of another race?

    Using that logic, then I as a white man can claim that I am African-American because, in theory (although the theory is losing ground), all humans came from Africa.

    And if that's the case, then I guess I can go the Elizabeth Warren route and claim I am an African-American to get all the affirmative action goodies!

    No the point is race doesn't matter and shouldn't. The facts is that all humanity falls under a bell curve And the over lap between one group and another is huge and has far more to do with cultural background than race.

    Now Latino would be a bit harder case to make simply because Latinos are also of Spanish cultural heritage which Jamaicans definitely are not.

    In the case before us a person of Jamaican descent who is a naturalized American citizen and who is also of African descent, a high percentage of Jamaicans by the way, could be a Jamaican-American, an African-American, or he could, if he so chose, just refer to himself as an American. I'd prefer the latter of those choices but it isn't my choice.

    Tribal treaties on the other hand are very different things because they confer rights over and above those of your average American to native Americans that are on the rolls. The recently decided McGirt case is an example of that.

    Jamaicans consider themselves Africans, with many of them singing songs about "the mother continent".
