I want you to put yourself in the place of the officer?

    Wow racist much?

The suspect was bringing the gun around towards the contact officer, his cover acted correctly.

Spare me your red lettering! You raise your hand up when you're trying to sucker the officer in whilst simultaneously bringing the gun towards him, watch the video, the officer acted correctly, surely everyone can see that?

Irrelevant, the suspect could have shot the contact officer in the head or femoral artery.

What vid did you watch? Didn't you see the suspect bring the gun around from behind his back towards the contact officer?

No, the officer the suspect was bringing the gun towards was the contact cop, the shooter was the cover. This is actually a brilliant example of the principle, they should feature this as a training vid, the contact officer cannot see the threat but his cover can.

How do you know that? Would you bet your life on it? The life of your friend and colleague?

What on earth are you talking about? Watch the footage again and this time only from the shooter's perspective. There was no clear surrendering, maybe he was or maybe he was but we are talking micro-seconds here, the quick and the dead. Anyone would have done the same in the same circumstances and been fully justified.

Now you see I've done nearly 30 years in the military and law enforcement with extensive firearms training, let me ask you, what's your experience?

The content of the video does NOT support your allegation.

I can I put myself in the position as the officers. I, too, have been in life-or-death situations in which I had to make split second decisions.

At the time of the shoot, the guy didn't have a gun in his hands did he?

It's not like the man and his girlfriend were Bonnie and Clyde, exceedingly dangerous murderers. Nevertheless, when he answered his door holding a gun, and upon realizing it was the Police, he immediately showed open hand and began to squat to place his gun on the floor. The last thing in his life that he saw were Police at his door. This is not right. It was his life, his home, his door, his liberty. Why do Police immediately start screaming, yelling and agitating themselves at the least hint of danger....and then open fire. It's crazy. Personally, I'm amazed at the presence of mind of the victim to comprehend the immediate insanity of the moment and begin to comply. But even that wasn't enough. Our LEO's are overtrained in many instances, to the point of becoming more attack dog than human.

Until very recently, police officers got away with things like this. Many, NOT ALL, think they are "untouchable" and for a very, very long time that was true. They could do almost anything with 100% impunity.

I don't understand why they couldn't have used rubber bullets.
I don't understand why the cop that was "in danger" didn't shoot the guy.
I don't understand why anybody thinks the man was doing anything other than complying.
I don't understand why people apologize for trigger-happy cops.
I don't understand why saying these things means I'm somehow a "cop hater".

IOW, I cannot make sense of any of this. And, that because it simply makes no sense. Another life lost. Senseless.

I see your point but his gun was in his right hand behind his back. What was he supposed to do, drop the gun on the floor behind his back? Nobody does that. Everyone brings it forward and places it on the ground to prevent an accidental discharge. Do you think that a man playing video games with his girlfriend and making salsa has it in his heart and mind to shoot a Police Officer at his front door? That makes no sense.

I'm 100% pro LEO. And I always give the Officer the benefit of the doubt. But when I see such a quick killing as this I ask why. Why not hold your weapon on him, take a step back, order him to put his weapon on the ground, and give him the time necessary to comply, Instead of shouting hand, hand, hand and then shooting him. I know the Officer thought he was doing the right thing. But it wasn't right. I don't want to call it murder, but an innocent man is dead at his own doorstep. What are we supposed to think? Like you said in an earlier post, I feel bad for everyone involved. It's a crying shame.

The death culture in police forces has to change.

When more than one police officer attends a complaint they act like a pack. One of the pack will always attack and the others will join the attack.

The person who phoned 911 and accused the occupants of the apartment with violence should be charged and prosecuted for making a false report.

Actually it was the 911 operator who marked it as domestic violence. The caller pretty much admitted to the operator that he would exaggerate the complaint if it would get a unit out there quickly.

    Agreed.

More often than not, VERY TRUE.

This would be difficult to do because:

    1. The caller may not have given a false report. He or she probably gave the information they thought was true at the time. Not many people would risk their own safety to ascertain the exact scope of what is going on with strangers, especially when they are concerned there may be domestic violence.

    2. This would prevent people from calling the police in the future as they would fear arrest and/or prosecution for doing what is now described as one's "civic duty". Would you be willing to risk your freedom to try to help someone you believed *might* be in trouble? It's hard enough to get people to get involved and report crimes without that hanging over their heads.

From the article: "It could be physical," he said. "I could say yeah if that makes anybody hurry on up. Get anybody here faster." (caller)
