Oh, that's a hard disagree on who bears responsibility for the response to a global pandemic. That is definitely squarely in the realm of the federal government because this virus doesn't give two shits about the artificial border around your city or state.

As for social justice issues, again, the notion that the federal government has no role to play in the lives of its citizens is patently absurd. Before Trump, there was a whole division of the DOJ focused on the issue of ensuring that local police precincts did not overly discriminate. If a local municipality's police force and government can get overtaken by a group which is racist - and that isn't hard to imagine given that it has happened multiple times in our history - why wouldn't you want the federal government to intervene?

What I came away from Night One with is a sense that the Dems are ready for war. They brought back Congress and the wagons are circling. The message was clear - this is no time to skip voting. They are galvanized.

I'd be in favor of simple federal legislation which disallows local police to restrain people by the neck and a law to get rid of automatic immunity. If the D.C. Democrats had wanted that, they could have written such legislation, had Republicans vote favorably, and gotten Trump's signature between Memorial Day and June 1st.

Apparently "police reform" isn't the real issue. Just, "Burn, baby, burn!"

 

Yes, I guess if Biden wins, we go backward to "more war" instead of "less war". That's one of the reasons so many hawkish, war-happy RINO Republicans are backing him.

I feel really confident that Democrats were prevented in going any further on their police reform bill because Republicans only wanted to disincentivize the use of the neck hold instead of banning it. Also because Trump put his foot down and said he would go no further than his executive order on anything related to police reform.
