Admittedly, I was on pins and needles about his appearance last night. I think he did well enough to not be ruled out just yet. He may cancel the debates and that would look very bad, but we don't know if that's going to happen yet. I want to believe that both candidates will participate and bring their "A" games.

Speaking of dementia, we should get to the oranges of covfefe. I wonder if Tim Apple might be able to help.

Yes, we hope so. As someone else mentioned, both Trump and Biden are prone to gaffes, so their "A" game will probably be pretty funny.

Do *I* really vote this way? No, but I'm commenting upon what / how I think the electorate at large will be doing / reacting.

It's not just reading from a teleprompter. It was the delivery, the eye contact, the emotion, the eloquence... I'm sure his opponents are frustrated because they expected a babbling and drooling demented fool and what they got was a VERY competent delivery of a very good speech.

Wishful thinking. It looks like you didn't watch his debate against Paul Ryan, and his debate against Bernie Sanders. He does well in one-on-one situations and clearly is much less demented than you guys like to assume.

I'm more for "thinking" than "wishing".

You mean his debate with Paul Ryan in 2012...eight years ago? My father, who declined slowly at first, then quickly at the end, was perfectly coherent eight years before the Alzheimer's symptoms began.

I barely recall the Biden/Sanders debate, but that's the night Biden committed to a woman VP running mate. Looking at "who won", it looks like Sanders picked up more "favorability" points than Biden did.

What is Biden online dating or something? None of this crap is relevant.

Sure but the Biden/Sanders debate was much more recent and regardless of who "won" Biden didn't appear demented at all, and did well, which was my point. See, Biden is ahead in polls. All that he needs is a tie, in the three debates. It's Trump the one who must recover terrain. If Biden doesn't screw up, I think chances are that he will win.

Funny that you posted this poll, but didn't quote the source. I remember polls at the time too, and I saw polls in which Biden went up one point and Sanders went down one point. By the way, IIRC Biden said he would get a female veep in one of the large Dem primary debates, not in the one he had one on one with Sanders, no?

One poll doesn't prove anything. Who knows how biased the sample was? I'd look at aggregates... and even more, at the real poll, the one that counts, and you know how Sanders' popularity evaporated in smoke and last I checked Biden beat him by more than 9 million votes, three times more than Hillary did in 2016.

Look, I'm familiar with Alzheimer's patients... you can't train them THAT well if they do have advanced dementia like you guys insist to be the case for Biden. That performance of yesterday, teleprompt or not, was not at all indicative that Biden mind's is gone and he is a babbling drooling demented fool. Sorry, but it's just not the case. Good luck making that stick, if Biden continues to put together astonishing performances like last night's. Even Fox News acknowledged it, saying that Biden put a big hole yesterday in Trump's narrative that he is demented.

By the way, I'm a neutral observer more than anything. I don't even know yet what I'll do in November. Saying that Biden doesn't seem demented to me (or at at least not to the degree claimed by his opponents) doesn't automatically mean I'll vote for him. I'm just observing the political landscape, for now. Like I said elsewhere, I'm giving myself more time to see how the pandemic is doing, how the vaccines are coming along, before I decide my vote.

I don't think campaign managers would agree with you. Image is key to the success of a campaign.

And we know Trump has an A game to bring to a debate, he constantly takes HARD questions and attacks from the MSM press. Biden has even dodge sympathetic press. Reading off a highly practiced teleprompter speech is a far thing from a spontaneous debate format especially if the moderators are not loaded up in his favor.

So you believe the electorate at large is clueless about that which SHOULD matter when electing a President?

The chart I posted is from fivethirtyeight.

I don't recall anyone saying that Joe is in "advanced" dementia. Just that his mind is deteriorating with dementia. He appears to be in relatively early days, with good and bad days. Since you are familiar with Alzheimer's disease, you know how quickly people can fail after the early signs, or get "lucky" and have a decent year or two. Ronald Reagan appears "all right" while campaigning for his 2nd term, but it was a very sad sight watching him totally crumble over 4 years.

Anyway, the deterioration in Joe Biden between 2015-2016 and today is pretty obvious.

Partially - but image and intentions only go so far. Biden has nothing of substance to offer.

Biden is incapable of dealing with the kind of abuse Trump is used to taking on a daily basis. If Trump gets Biden even the least bit flustered Biden is likely to start acting all weird and crazy like he has as of late when flustered and its going to be all over.

I warned people. I wrote many, many times. If Biden can do something like this (I was more specifically referencing the debates but this will do) without peeing all over himself, people will act like the 2nd coming of Socrates. Well, look at the headlines on www.drudgereport.com
    A Home Run!
The closest things to actual policy in his speech:
    1) When he and his were lambasting Trump for being too drastic in his Covid response, they were putting the ill in nursing homes and saying, "go hug a chinese person!" Biden claims he was drafting a dandy Covid response that will fix everything.
    2) Trump intends to raid SSI but Biden will protect it. I believe Biden will protect it. I doubt raiding it is on Trump's agenda.
Is it just me, or did he call the right in Charlottesville all bad people, and Antifa good people? He's definitely saying Trump was wrong to think there were ANY right wingers there that were anything but concentrated evil.

He says, after 50 years in Govt. this is when we end racism. Uh huh. After 60 years of me and my son being white presenting fellows and counting last, now is when things get fixed. Sure.

I cannot wait for Trump's turn.

I do fear it will not matter. The Dems may already know they are a lost cause but have no intention of having a fair election. Mail in voting? I fear on election eve, Trump will have won. Then we count votes for 2 months as Dems shout, Eureka! We found another box of votes, all for Biden on Hillary's coffee table! and this keeps happening till Kamala is POTUS.

If you are not saying advanced dementia then I'm fine with that. Some are saying just that, though. They make it sound like he's totally incapacitated which is just not true.

The Students for Trump turnout was great. It's nice to see peaceful young people involved in politics. :)
