Waiting on a call back from the vet. Hoover (aka Doublewide) was in kidney failure yesterday. The vet addressed the bladder issue that caused the failure, and he spent the night at the animal hospital.

How he is responding to last night's treatment, will tell us if his kidneys are reverting, and if he can come home or not.

You don't realize how much 'room' a pet takes up in your home, until they aren't there.....

Update: Hoover is doing well, the vet wants to run some tests this afternoon, and keep him overnight for additional monitoring.

I think I'll start a GoFundMe page to pay his vet bill, since they've given us a general estimate equal to 1.5 weeks wages. *kidding

I don't cotton Vets on average.I had a good vet years ago for my
2 Huskies. My first Husky made it a little over 12 years and my 2nd
a few months over 15 years. But he was going blind.
That Vet was a Catholic and he practiced Tough Love.
After him the next vet was more interested in the bill.Making sure
you know what the bill will run before going under the knife.
Because vet bills were getting kinda ridiculous.A simple overnight
stay was like $ 25 and this was 20 + years ago.

I hope your pup is ok. Hoover now that is interesting have anything to do with his nickname doublewide?
Nor in your heart. I had mine to the vet. I was afraid he had an intussusception the vet says no but I am still concerned. He isn't his up beat self.

My cat will be calling you regarding distinctions between species, lol. Yes, the name Hoover is exactly what you think it is. When he first adopted us, if you put a plate of food down, it was gone in a New York minute. He became Doublewide, and was approaching Triplewide not that long ago. When we lost Einstein about 18 months ago, we could control his portions better, and he had slimmed down to svelt 15 pounds. Well, about as svelt as a three legged cat could be, lol.

The good news is, he is very much improved, and should be coming home tomorrow. Change in diet, watching hydration, and antibiotics for a couple of weeks.

Sorry to hear about your pup(?). I had to google intussusception. One of Hoover's symptoms was lethargy, so keep an eye on hydration and urine output.

@Falena Before we had a chance to implement your Groundhog interception, she (apparently, per the spouse) made her way onto the deck looking for a nibble one morning last week. I'll leave it at services were held about an hour later over the side of the embankment. Not my preferred ending, but I don't spend good money on plants to have them eaten to the quick.

Did you get a cooling of temperatures? Quite often that will give plants a pick-me-up in the fall.

We have actually hit what we call the September switch, even though it's still August. Days are less humid, and the nights cool down into the mid 60's, great sleeping weather.

My mom use to put snails in a pot with breadcrumbs so they would come out and eat the bread crumbs. Next day she would put them in the gravy and we would pick them out of the shells with toothpicks to eat them and suck the juice out of the shells. Delicious.

Yeah I ate them and they were excellent in gravy. In the Italian stores they use to have big wicker basket that were full of little white snails. They were deep in their shells with a hard film at the opening. They would scoop them out and put them in small brown bags to take home.

To each their own, personally I draw the line at insects but they have been food for millennia.

I ate bugs once. My older brother went on vacation and brought me back a present. A box of candy. I should have been suspicious because he was a gigantic pain in the ass but I was really young and nieve. I ate a couple of pieces and realized the candy was chocolate covered insects. He loved it and I wouldn't give him the satisfaction and ate the rest of them and grossed him out. They weren't bad. Lol

    I guess???

We've had three days of warm temperatures since May. So, I guess all the other days could be counted as 'cooling'.

I know that I already hit "like" on this, but that just isn't enough. I got a big laugh from this. As they say, the best comedy contains an amount of truth.

The most important thing to understand with a Dog OR Cat is the
quality of their pet food.Feed them the cheap stuff { that have bright
colors and fancy name on the Bag or can } and you do so at the
peril of yer loved one { pet }.
There are more than enough Internet Vets who have gone viral
with Infomercials showcasing how low price which equals low quality
pet food could mean yer pet living half as long.
Always check the label on Pet food.Check the list of Ingredients.
Know what is bad for yer pet. Most quality pet food is Not Colored.
Make sure it Contains NO :
    - Meat by-products
    - Wheat,Corn or Soy
    - Artificial colors,Flavors or Preservatives ...

    Unlike me Posts
