The reality is there will never be a real and prolonged shutdown in the Third World, due to it being impractical and them not being able to afford it. The virus will never go away and will remain persistent in these other Third World countries.

And even if countries like the US completely got rid of it, it would only take 1 single infected person arriving from another Third World country to start the whole process all over again.

We know the US can't control their borders and thousands of persons arriving from Third World countries sneak in every year.

Also, even if old people homes in the US completely shut their doors and stopped allowing visitors, the elderly would still not be safe, because when you look at many of the workers in these places, they come from immigrant backgrounds and will have a lot of contact and exposure to any virus that's prevalent in the migrant community. (It's common for them to live in big extended families, and only takes one relative to travel back visiting relatives in another country, to bring the virus back to all the people in the old people home)

And yet the shutdowns in developed countries will still cause dire problems in those third world countries on account of the globalized nature of supply chains.

They may not be necessary in Sweden. They don't have the Trumpist nuts we have in our country who think that they have some God-given "right" to put other people at risk. So? How does that help us?

I’ve been saying this for months.
Most of these people are day laborers too and face the real risk of starvation.

If we had had a real lockdown, we wouldn't be in this mess.

So if you want someone to blame, try a mirror.

Scientists don't push pseudoscience. The "hydroxychloroquine is the answer" pseudo-president does. And you do also if you just repeat what he says.

So not wearing the mask is the right thing then?

If Trump did the opposite of those things then you would still complain, just with the opposite argument.

You're opinion is extremely biased based on your political views therefore it is invalid.

They are not necessary anywhere because they are based on liberal pseudoscience. And Sweden proves that they are not necessary.

Sweden did not follow ANY of the policies that YOU are advocating. Sweden did not mandate masks. Sweden did not lock their society down. The majority of Swedes have been living NORMAL lives for the past five months. And guess what? There was no disaster in Sweden. Sweden is fine. A tiny, tiny, tiny percentage of Swedes, most of them very old, did die from the virus. Sad but hardly catastrophic. Certainly not a valid reason to suspend basic freedoms for millions of people. The liberal response to COVID has been the biggest overreaction in the history of the world.

The response in the US was left largely up to governors, in accordance with constitutional separation of powers. And no governor performed worse than Andrew "Grandma Killer" Cuomo in New York. An absolute disaster on every level. Yet sadly predictable given the sheer ineptitude and venality of Democratic leadership.

All failed religions try to blame their failures on nonbelievers. Your lockdown religion is no different.

Anyone pushing mask mandates, draconian lock downs, and social distancing is pushing pseudoscience, whether they call themselves a "scientist" or not. None of the Nordic countries (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland) mandate masks because there is no evidence demonstrating the efficacy of mask mandates. And even if their efficacy could be demonstrated somehow, the net effect of mask mandates would be indistinguishable from pure noise or randomness. We're talking about tiny, tiny fractions of a percent here. The overall reduction in risk is largely negligible. The decision to wear a mask or not is highly contextual and should therefore remain an individual choice. Unfortunately, liberal Democrats detest the idea of individual choice. They prefer totalitarianism instead.

My 'religion' is called science, and is based on the success of a ton of other countries.

You are trying to cover up your failure, and I wish you all the luck in the world in that endeavour.

You will need it, because your guy in the White House is one of the worst screwups in American history...

    Separation of powers????

You don't even know what the separation of powers is. Governors are not a "constitutional power"

Nothing so sad as somebody discussing science, pandemics and the Constitution who doesn't know a word about science, pandemics or the Constitution.

Not really. They're more used to living locally and off the consumer treadmill than people in more affluent economies.
And if you truly give a rat's ass about the poor in the third world, you should be out campaigning to tackle climate change more universally.
    Are you?

A huge number of people in developing countries live in urban areas that rely heavily on globalized supply chains. And even those living outside urban areas still depend on global supply chains for things like farming equipment and medicine. There is simply no getting around the fact that lockdowns in the west will probably kill and/or mortally endanger millions of lives in developing countries. But that's fine as long as Biden wins the presidency, right?

    Nope.

None of the Nordic countries mandate masks because there is zero evidence demonstrating their efficacy.

Sweden never imposed a lockdown and they are fine.

Florida performed far better than New York, despite having a less severe lockdown.

All the evidence disproves your lockdown religion.
