LINK: Jefferson County 11-year-old suspended for handling an Airsoft gun during online school

Seriously? The boy is at home and they not only called the police on the boy for a toy gun (their own words) but also suspend him for 4 days?

    Stupid.

Reminds me of a conversation I had with a co-worker who moved here from Germany where he asked me what happened, he thought Americans were freedom loving adventurers, not snowflake pansies.

That county is pretty much conservative while Wheat Ridge is somewhat liberal. There will be massive pushback on this. Colorado might be blue but it's pro gun rights more than pro gun control. This is stupid. Just another example of that liberal tolerance the left is so famous for.

Why should anyone be shocked by this, and why the hell is it necessary for them to essentially spy on someone's home for their children to be taking classes, why does the child have to be visible at all to get lessons and turn in assignments "online". Oh, that's right, by allowing the "school" into your home it becomes an extension of the "school" and now you, your children, and your home are subject to the political BS that governs the "school". Seig Heil, baby!

It has an orange tip on the barrel. The teacher said that she watched him play with it for several minutes. Obvious is obvious. I can't see any reason the police were called. It isn't illegal for a kid to have a toy gun at home. That is just freaking unhinged. The teacher is bullying the kid.

I could understand it better if he brought it to school, but how is he a threat to anyone over a computer screen? I'm torn on the right to bear arms issue, but this is beyond ridiculous.

This should cause frantic buying for room divider screens.

I found this of interest: His actions were caught on a recording, but a teacher didn’t notice it until hours later when she was reviewing the recorded session,

Hours later. Did the thought process not kick in that perhaps a phone call to the parents to discuss would have been more constructive, then scaring the crap out of the kid and the family? If indeed it had the orange tip, there would have been no need to cause this issue at all.

I usually have a bit of respect for teachers, but I guess that's from days gone by when they had a bit of common sense, which is very rare these days.

Teacher should be fired and arrested for making a false report.

Ridiculous. What happened to asking the kid to put his toys away during class and leaving it at that?

    *facepalm*

Easy get back on this one. When the teacher is distracted flash your gentleman sausage at the camera and the call the police and report said teacher for possession of child porn.

You mean with that big orange tip on it and the see through plastic receiver? Yeah, Thats real difficult. If the teacher was really concerned she would have called the parents to discuss. Not go all full idiot and call the police and have the kid suspended for 4 days. Kind of like having 12 FBI agents rush to a Nascar track for a loop in a garage door.

We can question the motives of the teacher all day long, but once it was discovered the gun was a toy then the suspension was over the top and an abuse of power. Clearly, the school district is sending a message.

Yeah, unless he had a prior disciplinary history it seems a little harsh.

I didn't see the end of the barrel on the 11 year old's gun on the video to verify it had a red cap but it was clearly seen on the 12 year old's toy gun. Still, in both cases the teachers could have called the parents first.

Especially since it's hard to shoot someone through the internet.

We should all wear t-shirts and dress our kids with guns on their shirts during online sessions in protest.

Does the punishment fit the crime? They are going to make the kid stay home and play for 4 days before returning to.....home.

Two problems with this as shown in the article.

1: It says in the article that it was reported to JeffCom911 as "a request for a welfare check involving a toy gun."

2: An email from the teacher that showed she knew it was a toy gun.

They KNEW it was a toy gun.

But if it had been a real gun loaded both kids could have accidently shot themselves. It does happen.

It's hard to tell if the gun the 11 year old was flashing around had a red cap at the end of the barrel. Now the 12 year old's video clearly showed a red cap.
