And yet your own article says: "in which Colonel Paul R. Haverstick, Jr., director of the Defense Media Activity, issued the shutdown order." So where are you getting it that Pres Trump made this happen? There would have to be a directive from the White House to the Pentagon (since this comes from their budget) ordering S&S to be removed and such a directive would be public record. Can you produce this directive?

They should bring the P-51 mustang back. Not for air superiority, obviously, but as a durable, effective and cheap air assault platform for operation where air superiority has already been achieved. Or perhaps as a helicopter hunter :)

Ah hem, if you go back and reread my posts, you will see that I clearly stated I am going to wait for more info to verify, but hey, a Trump supporter making another false accusation is what this thread is all about :)

All I saw on the post that started this thread was "The PENTAGON has ordered...", which, as per usual, morphed into TRUMPS FAULT!!! God, it is sooo predictable, and sooo BORING, like being subjected to an endless rendition of Three Blind Mice performed by a grade school polka band.

No telling whether the Stars and Stripes had been infiltrated by Marxist reporters like the rest of the MSM.

In 2020 does the military really need to publish a newspaper?

    Only Trump haters believe that...

Any story that is littered with unnamed sources is probably as accurate as the Steele dossier.

The Pentagon in February proposed cutting all of the newspaper’s funding — roughly $15.5 million annually — to reallocate those dollars toward other high-profile programs, such as space, nuclear and hypersonic systems, [Defense Secretary Mark Esper] said at the time. The Senate version of the fiscal 2021 National Defense Authorization Act does not contain funding for the paper; lawmakers will convene this fall to develop a joint version of the bill.

“We trimmed the support for Stars and Stripes because we need to invest that money, as we did with many, many other programs, into higher-priority issues,” he said during a news conference at NATO headquarters in Brussels, following DoD’s $740 billion budget submission to Congress. Stars and Stripes is published in print and online.

I did not expect the OP to read the article but perhaps thought you would....

Stars and Stripes been an asset since the Civil War. Wait, maybe that's why... it was a Union publication....

It ain't free to troops. A year's subscription in Europe is $431. I can't remember what it cost way back when, but it wasn't free for a single issue. There wasn't a lot of interest in it.

Fair enough, but could it be "published" online if readership numbers supported that?

If the staff are good business people there's no reason they couldn't continue, there's freedom of speech and freedom of the press.

You quoted a price for subscriptions in EU countries outside of Germany and Italy.

It is $1 a week in Germany and Italy, free in Afghanistan and Iraq, and $5 per month in the pacific.

I really don't care, never even seen a paper edition. But I'm sure if it's military, then staff could be ordered to do it at military pay grade's for far less then 30mil a year, maybe even volunteer if it's that important to GI's ¯\_(º¸º)_/¯

Yeah, the paper has been around for over 100 years, but nothing to do with troop hating Trump.

Ahh.... They never tire of being wrong.

"Favourable" views of the president in Military Times polls have slipped from 46 per cent at the beginning of his presidency to 42 per cent last year. The 2020 poll reveals that only 38 per cent of respondents have a favourable view.
