I am unable to connect the two sides of the nation-wide protests. One side is the cops and the other side is the protestors.

So, on one hand, you have the cops backing "law and order" which is what most people want. But, on the other hand, I've seen pictures of protestors bloodied up by law enforcement.

How can that be? I'm unable to fit together both sides of the story as being true. Something's wrong here, but I can't put my finger on it.

A bloodied protester is most likely a rioter, a looter or an arsonist. We have a right to peaceful assembly to air grievances but that is not a license to commit violent acts, to lay siege to public property, to loot or burn private property. Police shootings amongst all other shootings are rare such that they do not merit was is going on in the streets of America. What you are having a problem with is crime that is openly sanctioned by local and state governments.

At least two of the deaths being protested against police were not shootings, George Floyd and the guy in Rochester N.Y.

Whenever groups of people get together that are clashing over something then you are going to find blood and bruises somewhere in the mix. Doesn't matter if it's the cops vs. protestors or the Raiders v. the Rams.

Were you actually operating under the impression that maintaining law and order is a gentle and peaceful process?

Like Trump, the cops get blamed for much that is not their fault.

There were 10,310,000 arrests in the US in 2018. 2,800,000 were arrests of black individuals.
1,031 people were killed by cops in 2019. 250 black, 405 white. 14 were "unarmed blacks".

This is a whipped up non-issue. Bad cops should be prosecuted. Cop shootings should be handled on a case-by-case basis, based on the merits of the cases.

It doesn't even rise to the level of anecdotal evidence that "cops are racist" or that "blacks are being suppressed".
This is a sick narrative meant to divide people for political gain. And LOTS of DUMB people have fallen for it.

It amazes me that it is necessary to explain that. Thanks for taking the time though. :)

Not all cops are good. Not all cops are bad. Not all protestors are peaceful. Not all protestors are violent.

So far there hasn't been a single protest arrest or act of violence by a protestor in my area that I know of. Probably because most of the events have been pre-planned by churches with direct ties to the civil rights movement instead of these BLM attention-seekers.

Maybe you are just confusing protesters with anarchists and rioters.

Perhaps you are experiencing a mild form of cognitive dissonance? You believe certain things, but what you see with your eyes contradicts your beliefs?

    You’re missing some players.

    Good Actors
    1. Protesters
    2. Police
    3. National Guard

    Bad Actors
    1. Protestors
    2. Police
    3. Secret Police (unidentified Federal agents)
    4. White Nationalist, White Separatist, White Supremacists groups
    5. ANTIFA
    6. Lone Wolves

It’s not as simple as partisan’s would like us to believe. I suppose you could apply Newton’s third law here.

It would be nice if we simply had peaceful protestors and police escorting them through our streets, but we don’t. We have opposition to the protest and opposition to that opposition stoking unrest.

    Here is one explanation....
“As a species we're fundamentally insane. Put more than two of us in a room, we pick sides and start dreaming up reasons to kill one another. Why do you think we invented politics and religion?” ― Stephen King

    Here is another....
“The world today hangs by a thin thread,
and that thread is the psyche of man.”

    - C. G. Jung

"How does anyone possibly express in words the state of collective madness that humanity has fallen into at this time in our history? As if in a hypnotic trance, our species is enacting a mass ritual suicide on a global scale, rushing as fast as we can towards our own self-destruction. We are destroying the biospheric life-support systems of the planet in so many different ways that it is as if we are determined to make this suicide attempt work—using a variety of methods as a perverse insurance policy, in case a couple of them don’t do the job. What modern-day humanity is confronted with, to quote the author and Trappist monk Thomas Merton, is “a crisis of sanity first of all.”"

We also need to look at who benefits most from violence at these protests. Whose narrative does it suit?

I don't see how the violence benefits anyone. Some people claim to support it and refuse to stop it and others condemn it and want it stopped. Time to choose a side, so I'll go with Trump.

“When you see these towns and when you see these thugs being thrown into the back of a paddy wagon, you just see them thrown in, rough, and I said, ‘Please don’t be too nice,’” Trump said.

“There may be somebody with tomatoes in the audience,” Trump warned people at a rally in Iowa last month. “If you see somebody getting ready to throw a tomato, knock the crap out of them, would you? Seriously. Okay? Just knock the hell — I promise you, I will pay for the legal fees.”

Not me. I prefer the POTUS not be a thug. I don't like thugs. Trump is the thuggiest by far.

I don't either but, sadly, those who practice the violence appear to believe it benefits themselves.

Trump likes to defend the USA, defend good people, and defend himself. He is not a thug. He just takes no crap from thugs.

You might want to look again. There is a very strong desire amongst some to keep these riots going...in fact, they based their entire convention around it.
