Trump’s increasing use of the term “globalist” in interviews and press conferences—including to describe Jewish advisers such as Gary Cohn or Republican opponents like the Koch brothers—is a knowing use of an anti-Semitic slur, in the words of the Anti-Defamation League, “a code word for Jews.” Trump’s self-identification as a “nationalist,” especially in contrast to “globalists” like George Soros, extends a hand to white nationalists across the country. His pointed use of the term “politically correct,” especially in the context of the Muslim ban, speaks directly to followers of far-right figures such as William Lind, author of “What is ‘Political Correctness’?”

 

Some folks actually prefer authoritarianism just like there were people who were loyalists to the throne and preferred a king and generational aristocracy.

The people who voted for the civil rights bill were liberal, the people who introduced the bill were liberal.

Actually, it's a rather recent development. Each party had a liberal and conservative wing, and those didn't thin out until. well, the tides turned on moderates when Gingrich was speaker. After him, things went down hill and become more polarized. The moderates began thinning on the right when Reagan repealed the fairness doctrine, which paved the way for Limbaugh, and years of his spewing 'hate-the-left' 3 hours day, 5 days a week, spawned the T party, more polarization ensued, then the freedom caucus, more creatures of hate-left ilk spawned like Hannity, Levin, Savage, etc, and so a huge crowd of alt-right types grew, which Hillary referred to as 'the deplorables' which was tapped into by Trump, he became the personification of that movement. It can be traced all the way back to the repeal of the fairness doctrine by Reagan.

So, no, it's not "always", not by a long shot, historically speaking.
